A Date That Will Live In Memory

Recommended Posts

Well, I have my date. July 16th. Wow. It still feels a bit surreal to me. I've done the research, read the blogs, asked the questions. And now it's my turn.

This site has been amazing for me. I know that it's hard to know what to expect, bc everyone is different. But what pearl of wisdom can you pass along? I know we all start in different places with different stories. But in truth, we are all linked in a way. We've had troublesome parts removed, to make way for our best selves.

I'm not nervous, right now at least. I'm sure that emotion will creep up sooner or later.

What surprised you the most? What has inspired you the most? What small thing has made the biggest difference for you so far?

Did you have a small talisman? Like an object or something that you can focus on to keep you on track? I know some people get a tattoo to commemorate their sleeve. I got a very pretty silver Bracelet, a gift from my mom and greatest supporter, and I wear it on my right wrist. So that each time I go to write, eat or sip, I can remember to be delicate with my sleeve.

I named her Stella. I'm not sure why I was drawn to that name. But I felt that, at least for now, I needed a way of talking about this journey in public without it being obvious that I'm having surgery. I've decided not to tell people right now.

I know this won't be the easiest thing, but I do feel like it will be an avenue for me to meet my best self. To become my best self. I am curious to see how I will change. Not just physically. But emotionally. And how my personality will change.

So, my date is set. I am excited for the introduction to my new, best self.

I havent been sleeved yet, but I plan to find a charm to put on my charm Bracelet I wear daily to represent my sleeve and this monumental day. All of my charms mean something very special to me, some are obvious and others are just for me to know.....not sure what it will be, but I know the Lord will help me find that special piece!

I think you have chose an appropriate name. Stella just means "STAR". When you think of this, just think about you having a personal bright star that is going to guide you along your path to your final destination. Soon, your Star will lead you to glory where you will always shine brightly for others to follow. Best of luck on your journey.

The thing that surprised me the most is how easy the surgery was and the recovery has been. I expected a lot more pain!

I purchased a Bracelet on etsy of a butterfly. It's on a string knot, so I don't take it off. I figured the butterfly was the best symbol of the change I am experiencing!

Congratulations on getting your date and your new journey ahead! I am getting my surgery the same day as you-July 16th. I'm not nervous as of right now either but I'm sure we will feel all the emotions leading up to the day, which I think is totally normal. I'm no help for most of your questions, but I do love your idea of having a little talisman!

Another great symbol. You people are awesome. The butterfly a symbol of transformation.. From egg, to larvae (caterpillar), to pupa (the chrysalis or cocoon) and from the cocoon the butterfly emerges in her unfurling glory. The gorgeous butterfly.

From all the darkness that we walk Through, Beauty shall prevail!!

I have my experiences documented on my blog if you care to read the, also, I have useful information on the side bars of my blog. You have to be on a laptop or desktop though to see that information or select the web view version on your mobile device. I think that will work too.

Anyway, I bought something called a journey ring for the journey I'm on. I think the journey name in the ring is more about a relationship journey, but I didn't care. I'm on a journey and thought the ring was perfect. It is sterling silver with white sapphires and it is beautiful. You can see it here:

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
