What Have I Done To Myself?

Recommended Posts

I know everyone says it at one point or another, but man do I regret this. I'm only 2 days out. Can't keep anything down, hiccups & gas are killing me. I've been trying to walk as much as possible , but the dry heaves are the worst. I have to stay an additional night until I can keep something down... Anyone else have issues keeping everything down ????

First day I had surgery I was AWESOME!!! The second day was the worst day of all. I believe it was the only day I said What did I do. Did you have the leak test and have to do the gastrique? I was not allowed anything by mouth on the first day, the second day I was given a shot of zofran and I was sent down to get the upper gi with the gatrique. That made me ill. My face, neck and chest turned bright enflamed red. After that I was nauseated beyond belief. Tell the nurse, there are about 3 or 4 different anti-nausea drugs she can give you and a few you can be given very close to each other. She shot one in my arm, which was deep in a muscle (I didn't let her give me that one again). But she kept up with the other 2 intravenously throughout the day and the night.

My saving grace (I said it here a million times) but if you have someone that can run out to the store for you, have them pick you up some Bigelow Peppermint Decaff Tea or you can do Celestial Seasonings and your favorite artificial sweetener. I only like Truvia, but everyone has a favorite. (it's better than the generic hospital crap).

Ask the nurse for a styrofoam cup with hot Water. They usually serve you hot Water in a coffee cup at meals with plain decaff tea and generic artificial sweetener. It's gross cause the warm water is lukewarm and still smells like coffee usually.

If it was not for the Bigelow Peppermint Decaff tea and truvia, I would not have survived that second day. I sat up mostly in my chair with a throw blanket from home. Water wanted to come up. The peppermint decaff tea soothed my belly and it tasted good warm and as it cooled.

Get a cool cloth and put in on your neck and one on your forehead. I feel so much for you, because the 2nd day was my worst day of all. It gets better every single day, I promise you. Also remember the anti-nausea medication will dry your mouth out even more, that's what it does, don't hesitate to use the sticks to keep your mouth wet. Use your little med cups to get down as much liquid as you can slowly.

Once you can successfully keep down a little liquid, you will feel better. Rest more than anything. Walk once you start feeling better.

Everyone goes through the "what did i do" phase. It will pass and you'll start to enjoy the weight loss and NSV's. Just keep telling yourself "it will get better". good luck to you!

I had that moment when I had to go poop in a furniture store the other day. But then today I was late to work because I couldn't find any pants that were small enough. And I am so happy. You will love your sleeve. I want to name mine and hug it.

tinfoil, how about just hug yourself. The sleeve is merely a tool, it did not do this, you did! There are those that have a sleeve that find ways to bug the system, and don't lose. Be proud of your accomplishments.

I don't think of the sleeve as the hero in the story, I think of myself as the hero. :)

It's a wonderful feeling to be happy, and have those nsv's!! Good for you.

MinaT,

I am at the same hospital you were, where did you get the tea?!?! I want to make sure I have it on hand for tomorrow if I need it! lol

Sounds like my first post after surgery, it will get better I promise. Keep in mind that your body just went through some major trauma and 80% of your tummy is gone. Give your body time to heal and continue to sip your fluids. The pain decreases daily and you should feel 100% in around two or 3 weeks. Good luck to you, when you lose the wt you will feel like this. :D :D :D and you won't be feeling like this   :o :o for long.

Hang in there! I felt the same way - nausea & gas pains are no fun. I also had the hiatal hernia repair during my sleeve surgery. But this too will past. In a couple weeks you will feel so much better. Although some people seem to bounce back quickly after surgery I didn't but I never regretted my decison and now 5 months out I'm reaping the benefits.

Yeah, relax. It's done & there is no going back now anyway. My first waking thought in the recovery room after surgery was "what did I just do?!" First week sucks, second is better, and it gets better every day after that. I am 6 weeks out and I feel like a normal human agian, maybe a human who eats like a bird, but normal nonetheless. You will get through.

I felt the same thing. I was so caught off guard by the pain and discomfort post surgery. I've had two laparoscopic surgeries in the past and for some reason didn't think this one would be as serious. (I actually ran into my surgeon once at the grocery store two days post op and was thoroughly scolded for being on bed rest still. What a wonderful thing Vicodin is!)

However, at a month out I know I made the right decision. I needed help with weight loss and assistance with making better food decisions. I got over the pain pretty quickly and the energy comes back once you get your Vitamins and Water in. The hardest thing for a lot of us is delayed gratification because food gave us instant gratification and now it is such a process. Work through it with support and look forward to your goal.

MinaT, I am pretty proud of myself, but I know I couldn't do it without my sleeve. :)

I'm still naming it.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
