Surgery In A Week In A Half July 12!

Recommended Posts

I'm also scheduled for surgery on the 12th. I started my pre op diet yesterday and I've had a headache ever since. Its a high Protein low calorie diet. I had to buy all this gross food from the NUT and I get to have 2oz of turkey, chicken, fish etc. with lunch and 2oz for supper so it's nice to have something to chew and not having all liquids. I have my pre-op appt later this afternoon. Should be a breeze. I meet with my surgeon again next tuesday and have my endoscopy on the 9th and surgery on the 12th. I'm nervous cuz I'm a single mom and I always worry about the what ifs. I know everything will be fine and I'm really looking forward to the new me and being a healthier mom for my son.

Surgery coming up on July 12th n while I am excited I am starting to get really nervous any suggestions?

Follow their directions and don't cheat, you'll end up paying for it. The first couple of months after surgery, is an adjustment. Right around 90 days post op I felt like I was coming out of a fog, my clothing size dropped by 3 sizes, the sun was shining, the grass was greener ;) lol. You'll get there too, just have patience ;)

I'm 90 days post op and understand your concerns. I can honestly say you're going to do great! After you get past the first 30-60 days, the food restrictions, etc. I promise you, it does get easier. My biggest surprise so far is that I don't like alot of sweets anymore!! I can't stand red meat. I lived on those two things quite alot before surgery! When the bloating from surgery goes down and you start noticing your clothes fitting very loosely, the excitement begins. It's both a mental and an emotional adjustment. Get plenty of rest, get your Protein and Water in you and all will be well ;)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
