So, I know this is a post surgery site, but I have a concern this group might no more about. I think I am going to be approved for the surgery. It has been a fight and I was all gung ho, but now I'm scare this is going to be like every other diet I've had. What if I'm fat again in 2 years? How easy is it to gain back???

You really have to go into this knowing that it is a complete lifestyle change. If you don't, there is a possibility that it could fail.

I'm only 10 months out, but Cindy H is right. This is a complete lifestyle change. You have to be committed to using this tool. However, it is a lot easier to avoid temptation because there just isn't room to put junk food for the most part. :)

I completely agree with Lissa! You have to be commited! Everyone reacts differently to any diet/surgery. Go in with a clear head and know that this surgery isn't a "magical fix". Emotions will try and get the better of you, but don't let them! If you feel like you are going to "fail", don't ever be afraid to seek help. That's what we are all here for! To help eachother through the ups and downs of this surgery! Use us! I am thankful to have come across this site, and for a very supportive husband. I live on a military base and the doctors here require that we continue to go to a support group before and after the surgery. It really does help a lot!

Well, if you view the surgury as a "magic pill" that is suppose to do all the work itself, your chances of failure are much higher

On the other hand if you view it as a tool to help you along your path then you have nothing to be concerned about.

The success rate for the sleeve is astronomically high. The only people I've heard of that gain the weight back have been so self destructive in there habits that nothing short of intensive psychotherapy would have helped them. BTW im talking about regaining most or all of their weight, many will regain 10lbs+- after reaching goal

One of the things about the sleeve is that for most people it changes the way we think about food. I am one of those who strayed from the recommended diet, but I am just not tempted to put anything unhealthy in my mouth. Yes I get cravings, but then I think about my limited capacity and realize I really don't want it.

When I look at someone eating a "regular meal" now all I can think of is how much benefit does each portion of the meal provide. bread, rice, potatoes, and Pasta no longer have a place in my world. Funny thing is that I was always known for having an Italian stomach.

It's amazing how your views on food change when you are trying to get the proper nourishment into a few ounces, rather than trying to fill a 20-30oz stomach.

OTR is totally right about how our thinking changes. For me, food is either Protein or not protein these days. I won't say that I don't eat bad stuff sometimes, because I do, but I don't let it defeat me. Each day is a new beginning and we will get there. I'm amazed at how many sleevers reach goal... and how many of them actually exceed their initial goal!! :)

i am 2 years out myself. like the others have mentioned it is a tool that you have to be commited to. but some of us, our bodie will fail them, like mine. my restriction stopped a year post VSG and then on, it was my job to restrict myself from eating and doing all the excercises possible etc. however my body works in a weird way. when i dont eat at all i lose wieght very fast, then as soon as i put anything in my mouth i start gaining. so now since im gaining weight i decided to get resleeved and im doing it next month with dr aceves. i dieted for a year and my body will not lose or maintain the low weight unless nothing enters my stomache! its soo weird. i did eat healthy, i did excercise i did everything to the letter, but my body failed me again.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
