I'm at 3 weeks and I still have 2 more weeks of Full liquids before I get to pureed at 5 weeks out. After pureed comes soft food then regular foods. I was told straight up that Salads and Steak will probably be 5-6 months out.

All doctor's are not alike and all sleeves are not alike. I guess it's up to us to listen to the surgeon we thought was right for us.

My dr say the same as your MinaT! Post-op I'm on a liquid diet for two weeks, have to have 2 boost, blue Powerade, Water, 2 Protein Shakes a day, other Clear Liquids. Weeks 3 and 4 pureed food, no more than 1/2cup per meal, 5 to 6 meals a day. Weeks 5and 6: soft foods after that regular diet, no bread, rice, Pasta, steak, salad until 6months!!

I think I tried salad and other raw veggies at about 2 1/2 or 3 months out. Noooo problemo. Then again, I have not run into a single food that give me trouble so.... there's that.

Be sure you CHEWWW IT WELL!!!! Otherwise it can really give you a stomach ache. Start with like....ONE carrot or piece of Tomato or something just to test the waters...

I was about 5 weeks when I first tried salad...had no issues and loved it! Congrats on quitting smoking too by the way!

You know, I loved a good salad prior to VSG, and couldn't tolerate any until a few months out but even now - only a few bites of salad does me in. Since I need to get the Protein (meat) part of any meal in first eating the salad along with it just doesn't do it for me anymore. Kinda sad. But I've found a lot of things to be that case. food pleasure anymore is just gone. And that is a GOOD THING! Except for the carbs I WANT to eat! lol

I would love a salad. I lost a lot of weight pre-surgery and I'm losing after surgery.

I lost so many inches it's unreal, however, my stomach is still a football/mini watermelon. You can see my stomach is still swollen. I eat 8 teaspoons of liquid Soup and I'm full.

I also had adhesions, a hernia repair, but as I get smaller, my stomach is getting smaller on it's sides - my lower abdomen is really small but above my belly button is jetted out.

I think we all heal differently and I also had some major complications and after 1-1/2 hour surgery mine got extended another 5 more hours due to complications.

However, everyone that goes through my surgeon's group is on liquids 5 weeks so the inside and outside can heal.

Everyone needs to just listen to what their surgeon says. I would LOVE a salad, though a pickle would do, and I'm really wanting tuna and I thought I'd be Tuna by 4th of July at least, but I got next year and the year after now ;)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
