One Of Those Days I Just Don't Want To Eat...

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I'm 5 1/2 weeks post op. There are days when I just don't feel like eating. They are very far and few in between, and I usually get all my nutrition in on the other days. Does anyone else have those days? Is it ok to just go with the feeling and not eat as long as I get my fluids in. I feel like if I eat, I will get sick.

What about Protein Shakes on those days? Or a Meal Replacement drink? I would think liquids would be okay for a day. Your sleeve may need a rest. Just don't go without nutrition for more than a day. Then again that's just my opinion, probably best to ask your nutritionist or doctor.

I have the opposite problem, I seem to have a strange empty feeling in my stomache even after eating. If I had to describe it, it feels like hunger. I'm 6 weeks out, hoping as time passes things will get better.

Hi! I've had those days! In my opinion, it's perfectly fine if you don't want to eat, just make sure that you get your Protein Drinks and Water in...some days I just feel like having my Protein drinks and not much else. Those days aren't as frequent as you get farther out in your journey. :) Take care!

Like sick sick, once in a while doing it no, but you will do something worse, that's slowing your metabolism down.

I am not a big eater, though I'm obese, I have a slow metabolism. I never ate Breakfast, lunch, I only ate what would be considered a sensible dinner, and sometimes I would snack at night (bag of popcorn) apple, or a slim fast or something like that.

My metabolism sucked.

During my pre-approval phase, I started doing shakes for Breakfast, then having a piece of cheese or cottage cheese for lunch, then a dinner and then maybe a teaspoon of Peanut Butter for snack.

I actually start losing weight, eating more food.

Now I'm struggling once again and I'm 3 weeks out. The shakes make me ill, I'm pulling in 350 calories a day and I'm forcing myself to eat a 1/2 cup of pudding and I'm going without a lunch and my metabolism is slowing down because I am not getting enough in.

Not sure what phase you are in your diet (I have 5 weeks of friggin full liquids) gag me...me which is where my metabolism is starting to slow and I have to force myself to get things in.

If you don't want to eat, try a shake, try some Isopure, find a Protein bar or something. Many doctors recommend 3 small meals and 3 Snacks to keep your body running efficiently.

Good luck, believe me I understand what you are dealing with. They said they were fine before with my Protein intake for the first two weeks and calories but at 3 weeks I need to step it up because I'm going to start slowing my metabolism down.

I am over a year out and I still have these days once in a while. It's fine not to eat on those days. I make sure to drink a lot of Water on days I'm not hungry. There are also days, once in a while, where I am very hungry and I eat more than normal. I listen to my body and it has worked well for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
