First Day Pureed Food

Recommended Posts

I was so excited to have real food again after four weeks of shakes. I'm two weeks post op. I haven't had any nausea or vomiting (other than while in the hospital). Came home from the doc, fixed one egg, two tbls grits. Timed myself, ate slow, chewed chewed chewed. Used a baby spoon. Didn't finish - stopped when full.

Immediately lost most of it. The rest came later when I drank a sip of tea. My mom freaked and wanted me to call the doctor, I told her I'd try baby food tomorrow before I called them - is this normal? I just want to alleviate her fears ( and mine a little too, no lie).

My guidelines had eggs later on, like week 6. I started with cottage cheese, applesauce, ricotta cheese, & refried beams when I first started puréeds. After about a week of that, I tried tuna with mayo & chewed really well. Eggs are really acidic, so you might want to stay away from them a while longer. Just take it slow & try to liquefy things as much as you can before swallowing & take your time between bites.

Be careful, that's all I will say. Make sure you are completely chewing and it is all liquid when you eat. I think it was the grits that got me, honestly. Today, I had pureed chicken and mashed potatoes and it was perfection and I haven't been sick, so. You will get there!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
