skane10 64 Posted June 28, 2012 I have a hole where the drain came out today. I was told to wash my sites with soap and Water and cover with a dressing daily. I'm I freaking out over nothing about the fact that it looks like a small hole and if I wash it with soap and water that it may become infected with the soap and water getting in it? Has this ever happened to anyone?
Minckle 87 Posted June 28, 2012 Interesting. I had a drain hole, but after they took out the drain they bandaged it up and told me to wait a few days before removing the bandage. By the time I took it off, the hole was completely scabbed over. Then I just cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide and re-bandaged it. I don't blame you - that would kinda give me the willies! skane10 64 Posted June 28, 2012 Yours didn't get infected by not changing the it for 3 days? Mine is draining. I can see pink underneath the dressing.
karenb4729 309 Posted June 28, 2012 I got the drain out in the hospital and was sent home with gauze and a clear bandage to go over the gauze. I was instructed to clean and change the bandage daily - I washed it in the shower with Water and johnson baby soap. 1 skane10 reacted to this

I'm sorry, I know it seems like a weird question.
karenb4729 309 Posted June 28, 2012 I didn't really scrub it, more ran the soap over it and then warm Water - I don't think anything got inside and it actually only took a day or so before the hole closed up.
Imperfectlyperfect 5 Posted June 28, 2012 Drain? My surgery is friday morning and I KNOW NOTHING about a drain! Can someone please explain?
skane10 64 Posted June 28, 2012 Karen, Minkle thank you. I won't be so freaked out in the shower tomorrow. It just took me so long to decide to get my Beyonce that I don't want to get an infection or have any complications.
barrbdoll 287 Posted June 28, 2012 Mine was a little hole as well and it did drain... just a lil bit... nothing that a small bandage wouldn't take care of. Don't scrub it.. just rub light soap and Water over it. Don't worry.. it will scab over. If you want, go ahead and put a band aid over it until you feel comfortable...But keep it clean. My drain hole was the last one to heal. It's hardly noticeable now though... 1 skane10 reacted to this
barrbdoll 287 Posted June 28, 2012 Drain? My surgery is friday morning and I KNOW NOTHING about a drain! Can someone please explain? Some Dr's use them.... some don't. My doctor swears by drains.. Said it serves multiple purposes, helps with gas, nausea etc.... I would say he was right because I had zero gas and zero nausea...
skane10 64 Posted June 28, 2012 Drain? My surgery is friday morning and I KNOW NOTHING about a drain! Can someone please explain? Your surgeon will most likely place a small bulb shaped drain in one of your incisions. This drains the extra blood/fluid from around your new sleeve. It may be a little uncomfortable, not really painful. When they remove it slowly it doesn't hurt.

Minckle 87 Posted June 28, 2012 It's funny because I was TERRIFIED of having a drain and it was totally no big deal. I didn't have any infection issues.
