Grand Rapids Anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I am going to the MMPC in Grand Rapids. I've done all my pre-op testing and am waiting for my surgery date.

I was on a different board for a while, but they were primarily RNY and quite nasty, in my opinion. I'm glad to be here and hope hope hope to find a friend in the GR/Kzoo area!

Nathalie

Hello, I am waiting for my surgery date too. I get released from my sleep Apenia on Sept. 22, 2006, I was just approved from my Insurance Co. I live just 20 mins from the mmpc on East Paris, Grand Rapids. I just can't wait to get started, I have had to wait for just about everything. Dr. Baker is my Surgeon. This is my 2nd post, my 1st was to a member. Any Grand Rapids people out there getting ready to get banded? Lets do it together. Mary

Hi purtynailz!

I'm very close to you. I live near 28th and Breton in GR. My surgery was postponed because of a low Iron count. I have to take Iron for 2 months, then retest my blood. My insurance is on board, I just have to get my iron up.

Are you excited? How long after you're released from your sleep apnea will they schedule your surgery?

Hi I'm Greg and I am from Harper Woods (sub of Detroit). I was banded on 8/10/04 and my sleep apnea is gone now. And I had a severe case of it.

Well come to the board and hope your surgery date gets here soon.

I am hoping that it will be the 2 weeks after I am released on sept.22, but the nurse told me today that Dr. Baker is booked into the middle of October. I will be spreading the word soon as I know. Mary

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
