The only three things I used to drink were Diet Coke and coffee. Occasionally a glass of Water. I hve managed to get away from the diet cokes although to stop drinking coffee would suly result in a loss of my job, because I would never make it on time. I have had diet coe twice I thnk in my six weeks sice being banded. There was no pain but I felt the need to burp and could not. IT IS something to note how much less I drink now since Istopped drinking diet coke. I do thnk there is something in it that makes us thirsty. I swear I was drinking a gallon of diet coke(fountain drinks) a day.:rain:

my doc said no coke, no carbonation. It really isn't a problem since I haven't had a carbonated beverage in over two years, almost 3. After awhile you just get used to it. I will have more trouble not drinking with my meals than the no carbonation....

The rules from my doctor are no carbonation for 6 months after surgery. After that, if you can handle it, then the occasional carbonated beverage isn't gonna hurt unless you personally are unable to tolerate it. They said the reason we are supposed to avoid caffeine is because it makes you hungry. That's it.

I was a Coca-cola girl also. I won't touch it while my stomach is still healing. However, if I ever eat a slice of pizza again in my life, or even tacos, I gotta have a Coke with them. So maybe I'll share one with somebody and sip slowly to see if I can tolerate it. I've never been one to guzzle sodas all day long so it's not too big of a deal to me.

I was one that drank a 2liter a day of diet coke, from the time I got up until I went to bed. For the pre-op diet I was told no soda. Since mid September of o7 to date I have not had any soda. I still have a coffee in the AM, gota get my caffeine. I drink between two and three 32 oz. bottles of Water a day. And have discovered tea, celestial seasoning has so many to choose from. If I need to sweeten it up I use honey, from a local beekeeper. I find when I don’t get all my water in I have a much bigger appitite.

I LOVED my carbonated drinks prior to surgery. I had 1-2 Diet Cokes a day and we have our own carbonator, so would carbonate Water and sometimes add sugar free flavoring. I have never been a water drinker. Love my coffee, but usually 1-2 cups in the morning and that's it unless I treat myself to a Starbucks later in the day... sugar free, fat free. So I was somewhat upset when I was told at my first dietician appointment... no caffeine, no carbonated drinks. I quit the Diet Coke about 6 weeks before surgery and switched to Decaf coffee. Six weeks after surgery, when I asked if I could ever have my caffeine back, the P.A. said, "who told you that you couldn't have caffeine????" I was ready to strangle someone! So I added back my morning coffee... no more decaf. But I have not had any diet coke. A couple of weeks ago, I thought, since we have our own carbonator, we can control the amount of carbonation, so maybe I could try some carbonated water with a little flavoring in it. So we made a jug, but I found I was very intimidated about drinking it. I was so afraid to drink it that my Fluid intake took a nose dive. So we haven't mixed any more. I really don't miss it and I drink crystal lite all day long! AFTER my morning coffee, that is!

I've had a couple of beers and it was fine. But I'm just not tempted any more to have diet soda, even after I saw the commercial today for the new chocolate-cherry diet Dr. Pepper. I just don't see any reason to add a bunch of chemicals back into my system. I don't drink coffee but I am enjoying the Cappuccino Slimfast Optima in the morning. I don't know how much caffeine it has, if any.

Try this test, take a bottle of pop, shake it up, put a balloon over the lip, see what happens to balloon, it blows up like crazy, let pop sit overnight in fridge, do same thing, balloon still blows up even after overnight, I don't want that happening to my pouch, paid too much money to risk it. gl

When I had my initial consultation with my surgeon, he told me he wouldn't do the surgery unless I cut out carbonation. I told him I would really try. Well, eventhough "try" is a weak word, I DID IT!!! It was not easy. The headaches from the lack of caffeine were the worst. I am 7 weeks out from surgery and can honestly say that I have given it up forever! I feel so much better. Crystal Light is now my "vice". Every time I have considered trying the carbonation again, I ask myself if I want to deal with the headaches of caffeine again.

For those of you that continue to drink it, I would only ask that you are honest with yourselves. What kind of weight loss would you see if you gave it up? It was a big factor in my gain over the years. Now I am making it a factor in my losses. Give it up, you'll feel better!!!!

Have you heard that we have become a "Carbo Nation"? I believe it is largely due to carbonation!!! Good luck to everyone!!

Well, since I am "allergic" to caffeine, it's really not a problem for me.

Do you know how few diet, caffeine free sodas there are out there? Got to the point that I just quit drinking soda altogether cause I was tired of drinking the same things. So I was off sodas long before surgery.

But I am the daring one and just had to try a sip a while back. Blew my belly up till I thought it was gonna pop and made me sick as a dog. Don't have to worry about me cheating on that one.

My doc is one that says no more soda...ever again.

So what about beer, wine or other alcoholic beverages--say tequlia sunrise, for example??? Can you have any???

I usually have a 3-4 oz glass of dry red wine almost every afternoon, but just one. It's best to avoid liquid calories, though. Most doctors want you to avoid all carbonated drinks. I had a long-standing Diet Coke habit, usually not more than 1 or 2 a day, though. We have our own carbonator, so when I wasn't drinking Diet Coke, I would drink either plain carbonated Water or I'd add a little sugar free flavoring. So, I was kind of addicted to the carbonation and I had to give it up. A month or so ago I thought I'd try a little carbonated water. But I found myself very afraid to drink it so I was just sipping at it and my water intake went way down! So I quit it and went back to my Crystal Lite, my new addiction! I drink it all day long (after my morning coffee... 1 cup).

Hi Heather... My doc says NO to all carbonation; as the bubbles will stretch out the pouch (banded area). Not worth the risk to me. I turned to Crystal Lite and Diet Liption Tea.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
