I'm 1 week post op today and would like to know how others are feeling or felt at this time.

Were you still sore?

Could you sleep on your side?

Could you tie shoes?

Bruising?

I'm still sore and moving slow.

Thanks

I had my surgery on 6/18. This was my first surgery ever and aim really amazed at how well things have gone. I Still have a lot of bruising around the incisions and where the IV was, but only one incision is a little tender. I am a side sleeper and at first I propped a pillow on my side, but now I'm back to normal. My only complaint is the low energy. I seem to get tired much faster than before. I'm not sure if it is surgery recovery or due to not eating hardly anything! Hope things are going well for you!

I was still sore through week 2.

Hmmm, yes I think although the action of turning on my side was painful from what I remember.

I don't think I tried.

Yes, was bruised through week 3.

Also, i was very weak (bone crushing weak, not tired, but weak) on the 2nd, 3rd and a some on the 4th week. Everyone is different, but it might be a good idea to know it may hit you. Also, while during the mushy food stage I went through regrets and depression about getting sleeved. I couldn't eat normal food, wasn't seeing weight loss and thought I had made a huge mistake. By week 6 I was so happy I had done the surgery. I just think it's important to hear others experiences so you know what could happen. Everyone is different and you may never experience what I went through. I'm almost 4 months post op now and feeling great and down 52lbs. I hope you recover quickly. Good luck to you!

Like you, I'm 1 week post-op (surgery was 6-19). I have bruising around each of my incision sites, and they feel bruised if touched. My upper abdomen (where all my incisions are located) is sore, but not so bad I would use prescription meds for pain. I would give my first born to be able to sleep on my side (my back/ribs are aching from lying on my back so many nights in a row), but I'm not yet able to tolerate lying on my side. I'm managing both my Protein and Water intake well, but have limited other things (non-protein things like applesauce, rice pudding, etc) simply because I'm not hungry...and can't stand the idea of putting something more in my mouth. I'm down 10 pounds since the morning of my surgery, and have absolutely no regrets! Best of luck to us all!!

Hmmm, this is a duplicate post, so since nobody answered the other one, and are posting here I will post here:

Yes I was still sore, it is major surgery. I was in the hospital for 5 days, so up until almost 10 days out, I had a lot of issues. Though I am 3 weeks out and my entire lower stomach is bruised mostly because of all the Lovenox shots I received (like heparin) so I didn't get clots. I had a drain for 9 days and that was a bit infected so that hurt for the first two weeks. It's now just red.

My large incision is still sore. Even though I was sore, since I came home, I put my crocs on and I walked for 20 minutes = 3'x a day from my living room, dining room & kitchen making a circle. I used my incentive spirometer still. I went outside. I changed positions often. I noticed that if I sit at my office desk I scrunch my belly more often. I find it was easier to rotate where I was, office chair, lazy boy, rocking chair, walk.

I napped for the first 10 days every day.

Getting in and out of bed for the first week was very hard, so oftentimes I would get up and sleep in the lazy boy about 1:00 am ish.

I feel better every day but there are times I may sit too long and for some reason my bigger incision is hurting me more, though it's not infected.

If I drop something, I can now get it by literally doing some sort of weird pleat.

I needed help when I came home so days 6- 10 reaching the faucets to turn on the shower.

I have had several abdominal surgeries in my past, plus this time I had a hernia repair with mesh & lots of scar tissue and adhesions removed.

Everyone is different, but know that every single day gets better.

I can get on my sides now at 3 weeks out, but it's only comfortable for a short period of time. I HATE sleeping on my back, thank god I lost enough weight and can handle sleeping on my back now. I am a stomach sleeper and I long for the day my stomach is not bruised and sore and I can sleep on my stomach.

I have read other's sleeping on their stomach the first days. It seemed to me those posts were men that never had stomach surgery in the past though, and they were also carrying more weight around the middle than I am.

Hi! I am 9 days out and I am no longer sore, I can sleep on my side but feel slight pressure on my incisions and I can tie my shoes now! I did not get any bruising, but I never get bruises to begin with.

My energy level is good but I do get to get tired faster than usual. I keep up with my Vitamins and I am sure that helps with my energy.

I hope you start feeling better soon!

I too had surgery on 6/19 and I feel GREAT! Barely any pain just a little around the incisions...I also had a hernia repair at the same time of this surgery and besides my 2 c sections this is my 3 surgery in my abdomen area...i am also a belly sleeper but i cant do that yet...i can sleep on my side though without pain...I want to go walking but wasn't sure I could actually work out yet...food goes down well but I am still on full liquid I can't wait to eat salad, fruit, and veggies again I miss that! I am definitely going through the food depression of seeing everyone else eat food and I know I can't...but I am getting better...I am down 8lbs since surgery so I am happy! It seems like everyone truly has different experiences with this surgery it is nice to talk to everyone about it....

I am not sure if I'm doing this right! But I'm gonna try. I had my surgery on the same date as you and had a hernia just like you! I have lost 18 pds since the surgery and the doctor said I could start soft food as of this past Monday, because I was doing so well. Anyway, I have been able to sleep on my stomach and haven't really had any problems. I feel I started the soft food too soon. I get a lot of gurgling in my tummy, and I still feel a bit emotionl. Also, like you, I want my food, and miss it, but as soon as I take a sip of something it reminds me that I'm full, and don't need it. I feel like my mind is in training wheel mode. I'm still a bit tired and I hope that I don't have a leak. I don't have a fever, just seems the soft food is still too much yet!! It's just nice to know that I have someone who has had the surgery the same day as I did. So keeping in touch and comparing would really be great for me! Good luck to you!!

I am jealous I have only lost 8lbs :( I feel good though so I don't mind...soft foods are def hard to take like I tried a tiny bite of a banana and that didn't go well...but yesterday I had mashed potatoes and that was great and yummy! So I def think it is too early for some stuff but I am impatient lol...we can def compare notes that would be great!

I have had cream of chicken Soup, strained it after I made it with skim milk. Then I strained it. I also bought guacamole, in six two ounce packages and ate that with some winter squash. I bought the squash frozen and thawed it in the fridge over night, and both of those will last me for a week. It's hard doing the six meals yet. It just seems I have to take meds an hour apart, then I full from drinking with the meds. It just seems too much now, but I know in time it will get better. I also crushed up some canned chicken last night, and added a tiny bit of the Soup with each bite and it was like having chicken and gravy, so it was yummy..lol...I just want to feel that burst of energy like everyone else does. by the way my name is Marcia....thanks for getting back to me. Yes, we will have to become buddies on here. Any advice, recipes, ideas, let's share. Thanks for getting back in touch. Once I figure this out more, I'm sure a lot of things are here will come in handy!! Talk to you soon.

I'm 9 days post op and last night was the first night I could sleep on both my sides... Today I'm feeling great, but if I over do it I get shaky and sweaty... I've lost 16lbs in 9 days:) I'm not worrying to much about getting my Protein in right now I see dr tomorrow, my days have been 1 Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup of gardenay Soups, 1/2 c of cream of wheat, and a pudding cup, that's all I need I feel, I drink lots and have no problems gulping down Water, quiet enjoy cucumber cut up in my water, refreshing. I'm just hoping my sleeve is small enough, I haven't thrown up or felt like throwing up, I only had trouble drinking cold water but as of yesterday cold water went down fine, I can eat my 1/2 cup easily in 10mins, with out discomfort, I'm not hungry and cravings aren't bad, did have a bite of my sons sub and salad, chewed and spat out, don't want that to become a habit... Overall I'm doing good 5 more days of full fluids....

I had bruising and some subcutaneous blood that kept leaking out of the incision above the navel. Otherwise except for a slightly tender tummy, I was fine. I got three weeks off and my husband happened to be off too so we went to museums and flea markets and zoos (we have a large cat preserve full of jaguars, tigers, servals and such).

I was on Clear liquids and drinking the clear Isopure fruit stuff for weeks 1 & 2. Then I was on full liquids for 2 more weeks. I lost a lot in the first month. My blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol were normal by week 2. After my two week appointment I was on the back of a horse. Easy breezy!

Walk, walk, walk! Sip, sip, sip!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
