Hey all... Surgery date is July 12th with Dr. A at Hospital Almater. Anyone else?

Hi,

Not everyone that is going to Dr. Aceves are on some of these boards. Some of them, do not have any idea of the different number of boards there are. When I went in 2008 I found a few people who went before me, so I met them when I got there.

I also met a lot 4 other people who were in the Van and we all talked on the way to Mexicali and got to know each other. We also all went to dinner the night before the surgery at the Hotel. So do not panic if they are not responding to your post.

Make sure you ALL take a group picture the day of the surgery! It is always nice to look back on a year later. Get their e-mail address's and keep in contact with each other. You all have a lot of things in common and it is nice to have each other for support.

I am always out here if you have any questions or just want to talk. You are in GREAT hands and are going to do great. I know this is a BIG step to take, but you will never have any regrets. I think Dr. Aceves is the BEST doctor you could have picked. He is going to give you the tools to change your entire life.

Hugs,

Suzanne

Thanks so much Suzanne...

I figured that was probably the case with not hearing from anyone but I really appreciate you taking the time to drop a note. That's a great idea about the photo.

I actually have been chatting with Jubjub7 who had surgery last week with Dr. A... He was giving me "play by play" as he went through his week. ;)

It was great to have the information and sounds like he had the same great level of care that I keep hearing about from Dr. A and his staff. I can just keep my fingers crossed (and follow the pre-op diet!)

Talk soon...

Ron

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
