Sugar Free Chocolate Bar

Recommended Posts

Someone posted before about some sugar free dark chocolate bars from Trader Joe's. I bought one last week and they are really good. Although I never like dark chocolate before, I do now. they are sugar free and carb free (I can't remember how many calories, I don't have the wrapper anymore). There are 4 servings per bar, but each serving has 3 little squares you can break off, so you can just eat one of those. Just something to keep around for an added treat. It will last a long time!

Beware of chocolates like that and the other ones by Hershey and Russel Stover. They have a laxative effect on the body and its REALLY noticeable to a VSG person (I tried them all)

I can see where that may be a problem, but I have been fine so far. i have only eaten 2 small squares total in 3 days so I will watch it.

I had a run-in with those myself. It was not pretty since I suffer from dumping after having had my gallbladder removed. They are very tasty, though.

Proti Diet also makes a chocolate dream bar. Tastes like a Nestle Crunch Bar. They have 10g protien & only 6 carbs. I buy them on www.mybariatricpantry.com. Great to have around to nibble a square or two when I'm craving chocolate! Plus the added protien never hurts!

Here is the website for these.

http://www.simplylitefoods.com/

The sugar-free one is dark chocolate and gluten free also. Only 1g net carb. Maybe you can contact them directly to see where to find them in your area. My husband is diabetic, so I basically bought it for him at first. But I love the taste too. Didn't think I would ever eat dark chocolate! I know this sounds dumb, but since I eat a tiny square every other day (1/3 of one serving) I have not been in a stall.

No problem. I hope you can find someplace close to you that carries them. I paid 1.99 each. Not bad, cuz they will last a long time.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
