I'm just about 6 weeks post op and I LOVE the people on this site! My question is, I keep hearing people use the term sliders. What is this? I'm just curious to know :) from what I know so far its foods we should avoid but what does it mean if a food is a *sliders*

My understanding is that they are foods that slide easily through your sleeve. An example a friend gave me was popcorn. She can consume an entire large bag despite her RNY. It doesn't sit with you to make you feel full and satisfied... it slides right through.

Sliders - food that easily slide out of your stomach and the restriction of the sleeve does little to help. Sliders = non controlled quantity eating

chips, some types of candy, rice, etc. I can eat it all without feeling any restriction and overeat. To the tune of 9 lbs. Now trying to get back on track. Don't look for trouble with slider foods, it will find you.

Ok thank you. Yes, I can see how these could really be detrimental to our success. Thanks for the information :)

Oh. I absolutely love popcorn, I must make myself stay away from it. It's so weird that some foods just slide thru, do they cause intestinal problems?

I was self pay so I didn't do any nutrition classes before hand. Sorry if I'm asking a silly question. Thank you for yalls help!! :)

popcorn for sure! I expected to have an easy time with things like ice cream, yogurt or cream Soups but popcorn, chips and cookie surprised me. Anything you can chew up into tiny, crunchy bits seems to go down much more easily than the chicken breast you should be eating.

I would think popcorn moderately good Fiber would do your intestinal tract more good than harm, but I haven't researched it. I would think a bit is okay for an occasional snack if you can control it. Just stay away from microwave popcorn and the movie theater variety. Buy a huge bag for $2 and have enough for months and months. You can either air pop it or do what I do and pop it on the stove in a tiny amount of your favorite oil. It only takes a dab.

Here I am extolling the virtues of popcorn on a sliders=bad thread. Sorry folks.

Yes, popcorn, and YES it IS good for you, unfortunately all the butter and salt we load it up with isn't as healthy for you. But we pop up a bag each maybe once a week for a snack after (or sometimes instead of) a light dinner.

OT: Sliders are also slang for White Castle Original Hamburgers because they are a bit greasy and "slide" right thorough your intestinal tract. Never had that effect on me and MAN do they taste good.

Oh dear! I thought i was the only one who ate popcorn for dinner. If I get my Protein in, I've been know to do that.

I always take a bag hiking and on road trips. Love the stuff. I put a bit of Lawry's garlic salt on it, but one thing since being sleeved: I do not add salt to food. Maybe a bit cooking, but I used to salt everything.

I wanted to see what all the fuss was about so I got a White Castle once. Bleech! Come to the west and get In n' Out. They make a good Protein burger.

I so miss White Castles . They have them frozen but they aren't nearly as good. Sometimes I have to buy them though. There was a White Castle right across the street from my H.S. in chicago, but there are none on oregon!

While most of the junk that we're supposed to stay away from are sliders, so too are a lot of good foods - many of the fruits and veg that help us get in the nutrition that we need, either now or as we move to maintenance mode. While my typical capacity for firm Proteins like meats is about 3 oz (and continues to be a year + post op) my capacity for combinations of meat and veg in the form of meat and veg salads, stir frys or stews is more like 6 oz - so a lot more nutrition added for very little added calories.

Use your sliders for good, not evil!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
