Dr Kelly, What Hospital?

Recommended Posts

I am making myself a little ( big ) chart to compare Dr Kelly & Dr Aceves as I make my final choice. I can not figure out in my research though what hospital or hotel for that matter Dr Kelly is currently using. Anyone know ? Thanks !

The hospital is Oasis and the hotel is Lucerna, you can google "hotel Lucerna in Tijuana" and check it out online...it's very beautiful and very relaxing!

Dr. Kelly operates at the Florence Hospital and then you go to the Hotel Lucerna for two days.

Cathy and I had our surgery the same day, so it may look like we are making things up! The building houses basically two hospitals. The doors and everything say Oasis which is the upper floors, known mostly for cancer treatment. The first floor houses the Florence Hospital where the bariatric surgeries are performed.

You can ask Cathy or me anything about Dr. Kelly. We both had a great experience and at the risk of speaking for her, we would both love to be back there with Dr. Kelly and Omar (his assistant)!

I felt very comfortable with Dr. Kelly, he is not only a very skilled surgeon, but also a very kind man. He welcomes you and makes you feel like part of his family.

Cool, I have gone through the whole list of Docs( So many Docs) and narrowed it down to Kelly or Aceves. Did either of you travel with someone ? My husband will go with me and he walks with a cane and can not stand or sit or any long period of time. His spine is fused at three different levels and I worry about accommodating him on the trip. I also notice you started under 200, I rock between 2005 -210 now and imagine after my pre op diet I may also fall into that group. Do you notice a difference with your progress in weight loss compared to higher weights/ BMI's over 35 ?

I was there with Jennifer and Cathy too! I started at a BMI of 34.5 and I've lost 21.5 lbs, starting with pre op, to now. I'm dropping a LOT faster than I expected or want! I'm hoping it will slow a bit soon because 5 lbs a week isn't healthy! I'm sure a stall is right around the corner... Then I'll be complaining. LOL

My husband traveled with me and actually had fun! He went out and got Breakfast off a great good truck every morning, had great food everywhere we went for broth, and had a BLAST at the Sat night dinner.

If you ask Omar... One of the rooms has a Giant lazy boy recliner that he had hauled into our room for my husband. It rocks! That might really help your husband!

Oh geez, I just noticed I put 2005 not 205. Yeah, I am chubby but I do not have a bmi of 432;)

Thanks for the info. I am actually hoping my hubby will just go back to the hotel for his own comfort but he is such a sweetie, we will just play it off the cuff.

Damanda

My husband came with me to the Florence Hospital and couldn't get comfortable in the bed they have for spouses/guests in each patients room. It's like sleeping on a brick. The lounge chair was only slightly better. If your husband has a back problem, I would suggest he stay at the hotel while you're in the hospital so at least he'll be comfortable. Two or three nights in the chair and he'll have to be admitted too!

Does Dr. Kelly use Heparin shots? I can ask Omar I guess. I feel like I am always asking him something so I thought i would try out here . I am so nervous about the whole blood clot subject. It is just in my head and I can not get it out. I am finally scheduled 09/18/12.

There are actual full size beds in each hospital room. He probably won't need to stay at the hotel. I know I'd want my husband there for support if I could.

No heparin shots, we wore compression socks for a few days and I think those help a lot. There were a total of 7 of us, I think, and none of us had any issues with blood clots.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
