Wheezy Whispers-AKA September's Goals

Recommended Posts

Okay, Marie and I also believe Dr. C told me that I should eat till I'm full. That way I'm listening to my body. And then they can gauge how much fill I need. I find this info very frustrating because this is two different types of information coming from the same office. Even on this forum there various info. It's frustrating, thats all. How are we to know if we need a fill or what, if the Docs arent giving clear consistant answers.:)

Anyway, I hope you get more restriction, Wheezy. I'm just frustrated cause I'm feel like I'm sitting on fence, not sure which way to go fill wise. Plus, the PMS thing, LOL

"HAPPY THANKSGIVING" EVERYONE

Hey Wheezy....how is the fill goin'?

I wanted to comment on two things.

1. First of all....that just sounds odd that your doc would say that the Ottawa doc won't give a fill without the okay from him. That MAY be a gentleman's agreement that they have...but c'mon....anyone can go to any doc (hypothetically speaking) and they don't need the other doc's approval.....ya know? Yes, I know it is "new" and they may not want to do it...but if they DO want to do it and are willing to do it, they don't NEED the surgeon's approval. My two cents.

2. Re the doc telling you to eat 3/4 cup as an amount. I just want to clarify something for you (& anyone else reading)....because at first I thought, "Holy crap...that ain't a whole lot". But, then it was pointed out to me that that 3/4 cup mearsurement (or 1 cup or whatever the case may be) is the "measurement" of the food CHEWED UP to mush. So if you think about it, that is a lot!!! (as opposed to something just plunked into your measuring cup). Of course I don't actually "measure"...but I can eyeball it and know how much I'm eating.

That being said....I don't really eyeball anymore....I eat till I feel full....which just happens to be about 3/4 to 1 cup of "chewed up" food.

Hope that helps!

Hey Wheezy, I think what he said about the Ottawa thing, is because he wants to still be 'in charge' of you. Even though you're going to someone else for fills, he still wants to have a say in it, and probably in how much of a fill you get. This guy in Ottawa probably doesn't know the band like Dr. M does. He did just learn to do fills, right? So I'm sure this isn't his specialty.

Dr. C kind of said the same thing to me, when I discussed going to Calgary for fills. Just that they would still be 'in charge' of my fills, and keep track of them, etc. For example, if you're going to Ottawa for fills, Dr. M's office isn't always going to be on top of how much you have in your band, etc. If you keep going to another Dr. getting fills, and maybe de-fills, then for some reason had to go back to Dr. Mumford, he wouldn't have a good record of your history.

I hope that I made sense. I don't think they're going to be difficult about you getting fills elsewhere, they probably just want to know about it, and advise Ottawa-guy how much to give you.

Mandi, That makes sense about the doc's, they just want to know what you and your band are doing, for future.

Yoda, that makes sense about the food. You had mentioned that before. My senior brain, forgot. Thanks for reminding all of us(me).

Okay, my monthly friend showed up yesterday. So my posts should be a little less hostile for a few weeks...lol....sorry bout that!!!:girl_hug:

Mandi you are right about Dr Mumford. I will clarify about the Dr in Ottawa thing. I did get the impression that Dr M. wanted to be responsible for my care. It seemed more like a father's demand (caring) rather than arrogance. The thing that surprised me was that it seemed I could make an appointment and get a fill in Ottawa without the clinics involvement. The receptionist was ready to make an appointment for me. I wonder if they would have contacted the clinic on my behalf because let's face it, if I had not gone to the clinic for my first fill, I wouldn't have even known that the clinic must know about it let alone OK it?

About the food, Dr. M said to eat approx 3/4 cups of food and yes he said to visualize it squashed. He actually said to try it so that I would have an idea what it would look like on my plate. Now here's the part I forgot to mention. He said to stop at 3/4 cups and wait a while because the brain doesn't always register that the stomach is full right away. Then if I am still hungry I could eat a little more. The band should prevent being hungry after eating the 3/4 cup. As well as weight loss this should be another guide to know whether or not another fill is needed.

Sorry if I mislead anyone :straight

About my fill, I don't think that it worked. I don't feel anymore restricted than before the fill. I'm a little discouraged but I will do whatever it takes. If it means I make the trek back to Mississauga in the next few weeks then that's just what I have to do. I am an impatient person and I want the weight to start coming off again. I have not loss any weight in the last 7 weeks, in fact I gained 2 lbs. I was hoping for a better result.

Is there anyone else here that did not feel any difference after their first fill?

Hey wheezy, i cant help feeling a bit discouraged too. I really thought that the weight would be coming off in a steady way. I feel like i paid an awful lot of my dh's money to lose 20 lousy lbs.

re your fill, i have read here that sometimes it takes a few days to kick in, maybe that will happen for you?

I know you don't want to hear this, but maybe you'll need another fill to feel restriction. Give a bit more time first, though. I've heard people with 4cc bands having fills up to 3.7cc. I think that that is the extreme, don't panic. Remember, although it's frustrating, that this is the great part of the band. It is adjustable and in our control. But alas, I know it's a huge trek for you.:phanvan .

Hello

I was banded at TLBC and I was given 3 fill dates. 1st Oct 30th second Nov 13th and the third in Dec. Maybe you do need a second fill acouple weeks later..Just a thought. I'm sure others with experience will help with more info!!!

I didn't feel much after my first fill either. I would say give it a couple weeks, and see how it goes.... then book another fill if you need it. But yeah, it could take another fill, or even a couple before you notice anything, who knows.

Ragergirl, if she reads this... I believe she said she's got her band maxed now. (well, I think there's the ability to go a little over 4ccs or 10cc's, whatever you have)

Don't be discouraged guys, it's gonna pick up, and soon, you'll all be kickin' my ass! I'll be grumbling to Dan, "Wheezy lost another 5lbs this week!!!" LOL

Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement but I think I have it figured out. I will call it Wheezy's Anatomy. Dr McMumford is really in love with me and he actually didn't fill my band at all in the hope that I would return soon so that he can get another glimpse of my perfectly rounded abdomen and my voluptuous everything. He secretly loves the scar he gave me while it puckers when I laugh. I'm on to him!!!! I will have to break it to him though that I have my very own Mr McWheezy at home. I hope he takes well. :unlove:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
