Poverty, Bad Heath And No Aide!

Recommended Posts

I have stalled and things are going down hill. I am stressed no job, no income and no aide. I am not eating correctly anymore because the children eat first. This is becoming a cosmic joke now. I was hoping that losing weight would finally give me my life back, boy I was wrong. I am not not ashame to tell all that I am failing in life and weight lost too.

If you are not taking care of yourself, how are you going to take care of your babies? I know that you have so many stressors going on that it's hard to see on day after the other, but you still have to look at other options. What about food banks? have you looked into those? What about moving in with family? You really haven't given much information, but I know that your scared about your future. This is a really hard economical time for you, but if you don't take care of yourself, you will not be here to take care of your children! Good luck and make sure you eat healthy as possible. :)

You need to take care of yourself so you can care for your children. I agree with Dorrie, try a local food bank. You could also check around with churches in your area. Many are willing to help even those not in their congregation. Not sure the ages of your children but WIC will assist any child under 5 and pregnant and breastfeeding woman. http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/

Can you apply for food stamps?

LiLu: there was a program on last night called 48 hours where they had 3 different families on that had lost jobs and were now below the poverty line. See if you can go to there website and view the elpisode over the internet. There was a company there that specialized in helping families in these crisis situations that might benefit you as well. Just thoughts that might help you. :)

I just recently lost my job and will be without health insurance soon. I'm a single mom with two kids but I was laid off two years ago and keep thinking we made it then. You can still eat healthy on a small budget. You have tuna, ground turkey, eggs, refried Beans. If you need suggestions send me a message. Also going to the park and walking is always free. You have to try to stay positive. Most cities have sliding scale doctors check that out. You will make it through this.

I suggest food pantrys, Soup kitchens and applying for SNAP (supplemental nutrition assistance program). I also suggest TANF, which is temporary assistance for needy families. Hang in there! *hugs*

I've been through this as well.... especially when I lost my job 3 weeks after surgery with no warning. You're going to have to go to the social services office and get some help. No pride- just u and you're family is whats important.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
