One Month Out Drinking Any Fluids

Recommended Posts

Hello Gang! I have a question, I am almost one month out. I am so tired of taking little sips. I know this is required now because I am just beginning. However I would like to know if I will ever be able to take bigger gulps. I get so thirsty at night when I wake up, taking little sips really frustrate me. I know this may seem a little petty but it really bothers me at times.

Thanks for you help and response!!

OMG! I was just thinking this yesterday! When can I have a Gulp? LOL.... I actually forgot about the sips one time and took a big gulp and suffered for about 10 minutes-thought I was having a heart attack!

I'm just over 3 months out and have just recently been able to take a little larger sip - a drink really. Like a mouthful, but I don't "gulp." That's just a lot of air and hurts like HECK! It gets better with time. To be honest, of everything I can consume, right now, Water is the only thing that causes me any amount of pain. So, in answer to your question....it's gets better than it is right now, but at least at 3 months it's still not what it used to be (but is very bearable!) :P

I'm at 2 months and it does get better. I don't gulp, just try to take long sips.

I started taking bigger drinks about 2 months out. I would fill my mouth with Fluid and swallow the fluid a couple of times. Now I have very little trouble drinking a couple of ozs at a time. This is trial and error. But it does get a lot better. :)

Thanks everyone....I am so looking forward to this. I now tend to put a lot in my mouth and just drink it slowly.

How about drinking out of a Water bottle. I am 3 weeks out today and I still use the med cups and I truly truly don't like drinking out of a water bottle.

Does that get easier with time? It really is easier out of a glass and is a lot more inconvenient now that I'm going places again.

Thanks Nancy, I had some weird thought that a year down the road, I'd be walking around with my one ounce med cups still lol.

It does make drinking easier, and while I heal, I am all for whatever is easier.

I am trying to use regular size glasses a little more since I am doing well with the sipping and not drinking or gulping. I used to be a chugger.

I know it's nothing to brag about but I was known to be able to drink a bottle of beer with no hands without stopping once in my day, and I won a lot of chugging contests at a young age. I could easily take down a 16.9 ounce Water bottle in two drinks. I am glad that I used my six months wisely pre-approval to learn to sip and I quit drinking Water with my meals.

I foresee myself trying to avoid drinking out of water bottles for a while to come though. I take in way too much air and the feeling isn't good.

I'm four months out this week and I can finally take a gulp not after eating but after exercising. Also I use a Water bottle with a built in straw. I know a lot of doctors say no straws but I've been using one since month two. My doctor said it can cause gas. Honestly not sure what I would do without my straw. It just seems to go down easier. My coworker is six months out and she loves a straw also. Hope this helps

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
