Had another exceptional eating out experience.

My server, was VERY helpful. I explained that I had bariatric surgery and could only eat about 4 ounces of food. She said that it was possible to order a Protein (I chose broiled flounder) as a side, with nothing with it as I can only eat Protein. It was the perfect size and delicious.

At other places I have asked for a 1/2 portion of the protein (if it is a large serving), with no sides. I have a card, from my doctor, that explains the situation with having surgery and only being able to eat tiny portions, but I've never had to show it!

This weekend we ate out and I ordered the regular size antipasta salad, ate 3/4th of the meat a a bite of salad and was totally full. Took the remainder of the salad home and ate the rest of the meat the next day, and had to throw the rest of it away. It was a waste of food and that sadden me. Next time I will order just the meat and just leave the rest. :)

It sure depends on where you go. I had a buffet once where they gave me the $9 rate instead of $16, but really I ate less than a child so would have preferred the child rate. They figure I'm getting a "great" deal, and yes, it was a lot less, but I didn't even eat $5 dollars worth.

At another buffet they wouldn't reduce the price at all - So I left.

Most places have been wonderful about letting me eat off the Senior menu - without showing my card!

It's amazing that the portions you are eating NOW are far closer to the portion size that we SHOULD OF been eating all along.

The wife and I go out once or twice a week. Last time we went out we had some nachos as an appetizer and split a small pizza. We took the rest home and had a total of SIX meals (3 each) off what most would eat in one sitting. Portions are getting WAY out of control. Saves a lot of money though, our bill came to about $20 with drinks and a coupon we had. SIX restaurant meals for $20, AMAZING!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
