Are you hungry/shaky?

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to read post about after surgery, etc. My question is...I know you are not eating as much but do you feel hungry? I know sometimes if I don't eat I get really shaky - I guess may be a little hypoglycemic or something. Do you feel that with the band since you are not eating as much?

I USED TO ALSO FEEL SHAKY BEFORE THE BAND BUT THAT NOW DOES NOT HAPPEN, WHEN I FEEL FULL I FEEL QUITE HAPPY, AND FEEL VERY NORMAL AFTER A MEAL, AND THE FEELING WEAK HAS ALL STOPPED.

Ditto for me. I used to get shaky and feel very light headed when I was hungry. I dont ever get that hungry anymore. But when I am hungry I dont get that feeling anymore.

This was a concern of mine before surgery, but it was the weirdest thing. I did not experience any shakiness until the 2nd week. The first two weeks I had so much gas and swelling I was not even hungry, what cured my shakiness was Protein, I loaded up on the Protein Drinks, it curbed my hunger as well. Don't worry you will be fine, we all made it through and so will you :)

Yup, same here. A couple of days before banding, we were doing some errands and lunch was late and I was very shaky.

Yesterday, I was at work allday. Had a protien shake for Breakfast, Soup for lunch(11am) and didnt get supper till almost 7. No shakes, no hunger.

Preband I would have wanted to kill someone

Slight off topic.

I get shaky every now and again (the most recent event being today) and I usually find it's because I'm short on Protein.

I've tried eating a banana or something (thinking I was hypoglycaemic) and looking for fast shugar. It's never helped.

I have found my best cure for the shakes is milk (milk shakes? ? - sorry slight pun) followed by some more substantial Protein.< /p>

You know, that is something I really hadn't thought about since getting my band. I used to get killer shakes and headaches when I was hungry. But now, even with the limited amount of food I am eating, I never, ever have that problem. I don't know if it is because I am not hungry thanks to my wonderful band, or if it is because the food that I am eating is of a much higher quality and nutritional value now than before I was banded.

I had problems on the liquid diet, those stupid Protein shakes are not fuel for my body, even though the seem to work for lots of other people. I need carbs pure and simply or I cant function. Once I ditched them and started blending up real food to liquid form I never looked back.

I can eat plenty enough not to get low blood sugar.

Pre-band I also would get the shakes, headaches, even nausea if I become too hungry. I've been banded over 3 yrs and I can honestly say this simply does not happen to me anymore, unless I absolutely go all day long without eating (which is one of the reasons I wound up banded in the first place.)

It's a great relief to no longer have this - whatever it was.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
