Beecharmer1982 9 Posted June 24, 2012 When is it ok to start working out with weights and doing things like pilates without risk of getting a hernia? I'm 6 weeks post-op, and I've only lost 30 lbs. I've been in a stall for the last 2 weeks and haven't lost a single pound! I've been trying not to let it bother me, but I really want to lose more weight than this. I still have another 70 lbs to goal. I really don't want to run the risk of hurting myself though. Any advise would help.
mesaucedo 207 Posted June 24, 2012 First off, 30 pounds in 6 weeks! WOW. That is insane! You should be uber happy! Ok, now to your question. I was cleared for exercise around 6 weeks. Things like small weights, cardio, yoga, and other lighter impact things. I began doing Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred, which is a bit more than "light". It didn't hurt me at all. Ideally, you should've been walking 30 mins each day from day 1 out of surgery. (Not everyone does this) I would stay away from things like martial arts and pilates for a few more weeks. You don't want to strain your tummy. I hope that helped, I am sure someone more advanced will chime in!
Beecharmer1982 9 Posted June 28, 2012 Thanks for the reply. I started back at the gym yesterday-- did the stair climber, treadmill and elliptical. I have an ab-cruncher machine at home that I also started using yesterday. Just hope the lbs start melting off again.
