On my third day of preop liquids for two weeks and I wanna know how long this lack of energy lasts? I feel tired and weak and just want to sleep all day. I work 12 hour days on the weekends and am exhausted from that alone. I work in a restaurant as a shift leader so I'm always on my feet.

I was extremely irritable and weak for about 5-7 days on my post op. I was on 2 weeks liquid pre-op. I found that Muscle Milk was my best option for days that I had things to do and couldn't stay in bed all day.

You have an extra hurdle of working in a restaurant in which you have to smell foor for 12 hours but it does get better!!

I can't say I've had more than usual irritability. However, I did when I started dieting in February and went low-carb. My doctor made me lose 40 pounds before I could even schedule surgery.

However, I've been on the pre-op diet for four weeks (my surgery is in 10 hours) and have had no energy whatsoever. I commented in other thread that I had gotten very dizzy and light headed while working out two weeks ago. When I came home I got the chills and threw up. I called the NUT and the DR and they said to stop working out. I wish they would have said "go have a piece of chicken!" lol Going to the gym was a way to stay busy and not think about food!

I'm a teacher so I was on the pre-op diet for 2 weeks in school and 2 weeks out of school. I didn't feel too bad while I was still working because I had a schedule and routine (and was working out 3x week). The last two weeks I've just want to sleep all day. It's normal for me to develop a wacky sleeping schedule during the summer, like staying up super late and sleeping in. However, it's not normal for me to sleep 12 hours every night and spend the day on the couch. It's been very tough to get anything done lately. I'm glad I'm not the only one because it was starting to make me worry that I wouldn't have the energy later to keep up with everything my DR wants me to do.

Thanks Beth. Hang In there. I'm trying to be strong. It's 330 am and I just took a hot shower to help me sleep. I keep getting low blood sugars (I have type 1 ) and no matter how little insulin I take, it still drops. shakes only hold me up for an hour or two so I ate some bread to keep ur up through the night do I don't collapse like I almost did yesterday. I'm scared now. ;( working 12 hour days doesn't help either.

I think my energy picked up around day 5. Hang on there. It does get better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
