Will I really have to give straws up forever?

glocks90

My NUT says i can never, ever, ever use a straw.

i have heard others mention that their NUT said they could use a straw after a certain time period.

whatever your NUT says, go with it

good luck

I've also wondered about the straw thing...... why can't we use one? Seems weird to me.

My paperwork says no straws for 3-4 months. A lot of people take in more air with straws and also take in too much liquid at once. I had Water bottles with straws before & just bought some without a straw before surgery. One day about 3 weeks out I decided to try a straw again & it just wasn't comfortable, so I've stayed with the no-straw Water bottles for now. They're kinda a pain when driving, but I've done fine with them.

Some surgeons say it doesn't matter & some say never. It just depends on the person.

From what I understand, straw use causes gas. I'm only 19 days out and have not had any issues with gas since very early out. I've used a straw several times since surgery without any issue.

I am using a straw now. If I didn't, I would never get all my fluids if not. No gas issue. Was never told not to. Each Dr has their own rules. I say talk to the dr about it and see what his reason it and if you can bend it.

My doctor says no straws ever. I use an acrylic to go cup with a straw almost every day, though. However, I didn't start using it until 4 or 5 months post-op. For me, it helps me keep my Water consumption high... and I'm more willing to drink my water if it's in something that keeps it cold.

I'm back to my straws...helps me drink much more. My NUT told me I could start back using a straw at 3 months post op...I did, with no problems.

I use those same cups every day, its the only thing I drink out of other than my Water bottles I take to the gym. I've been using them for weeks now and Im 8 weeks out. I dont even know if I was told not to use them, if I was it went in one ear and out the other. I think the reason is in case you suck up air, and there have been times when I was at the end of my drink and sucked up some air and I felt a little weird, but you just have to make sure you dont do that. I control my liquid intake much better this way. Before my surgery I never used to use straws, but I was having a hard time sipping after so I tried these cups and ended up buying 4 of them.

started using straws a few weeks ago. I am able to get all my fluids im when I do. I am just careful when at the bottom not to suck in air. I usually dont let it run dry

My physicians assistant told me that using a straw could rupture my stomach. I'm 3 weeks out. I work with a girl who had the dame surgery and she drinks with a straw but said she waited til 4-5 months out.

Good I will wait, it's just easier than unscrewing a cap everytime I want a drink, plus I like to reuse and they don't funky like the metal Water cans

I have a couple of those camel back Water bottles with the straw that lets very little water out with each sip. It doesn't seem to let in much air, because it's pretty tight. I thought it will be perfect for sipping, because you can't really get a big sip or pull off it at all. I've now heard everything from never to whatever helps.

I use a straw like that. I would never get all my fluids if I didn't. My surgeon said it is fine as long as I apply common sense and don't suck air. So I remember that and it has been a godsend.

I haven't had my sleeve yet I do have a band and I was told no straws....I found it impossible I never drank enough. Ans driving and wearing what ever I was drinking got old quick.I have Ben told no straws post sleeve however I know it will be a challenge. I hate that there is so much gray area or differences from Dr. To Dr.

I also have issues with the no drinking while eating .... nut told me I could sip from a shot glass. Thank god!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
