6 Weeks Out... Stalled... And No Energy

Recommended Posts

Total rant- I am 6 weeks out and pretty much stopped loosing weight 2 weeks ago & could sleep all day. I get targeted Protein, take Multivitamins, do the disgusting B12 drops, and drink my Water. I upped my carbs & calories like my NUT said, it hasn't helped. On top of that, I feel bloated, am irritated that my boobs seem to be the only part shrinking right now.

Oh, and apparently.... I may or may not be cranky about all of this <_< .

I am sure it will pass, if anyone knows how to make it go faster- please share.

I have not had surgery yet, but from what I read here on the boards that stalls happen. Especially stalls around the 3-4 week time frame. I'm not sure who said it, Maybe it was Lissa. But whoever it was stated to not worry so much about not losing. If you were to take and keep track of your body measurements that you would see your body is changing even though your weight is not. Another person referenced your body to cleaning house. You have lost so much weight that your body must now clean house and de-clutter and down size the rooms.

Emotions well I hear those run high at times. Also learned from this forum that hormones are stored in our body fat and as we lose weight those hormones are released which can cause an array of emotions. I am sure I will be experiencing these very same things when my time comes.

As far as the bloating maybe someone who has already had surgery and been through this will be more help.

Have faith and keep up all the hard work. If this is a stall, it too shall pass.

May I ask what are your specific numbers? Calories, Protein, carbs, fluids? Are you exercising at all?

I know it's hard when the scale stops moving, I've had more stalls than I can count. But they do pass, and it's always a mystery to me what made them happen in the first place. I think for me a lot of it is menstrual/hormonal. The scale slows down just before I start my TOM and until about 7-10 days in to the next cycle. They say the drop in hormones can slow it down, then rev back up when they start surging around ovulation.

Keep to the plan, mix it up however you can (more Protein, more fluids, more or different exercise) -- IT WILL HAPPEN FOR YOU!!

How long did you up for calories for? You need to keep up calories for a min of a week to even see a difference. How many carbs are you getting? How many calories?

Sounds to me like your body is adjusting to starvation mode and conserving itself. Don't give up, continue ahead but make changes.

What worked for me during first 5 months was:

  • no more than 35 carbs a day (I was carb sensitive and more carbs=less weight loss)
  • 60 plus grams of protien a day
  • Calories above 600 a day. I sometimes would be 600 and then would be 900 a day a few times a week. Then my body was not in starvation mode.

You need to find what works for you. Everyone reacts differently,so don't give up. At goal, my carb limit and calories went up as I can now eat everything I did pre surgery, just less of it. Today I consume somewhere from 1200-1500 calories a day.

Forever29, 39 lbs in 6 weeks is great, that's nothing to be cranky about at all! Being tired is no fun, but your body has been through a lot. Try the sublingual B12 tabs, they're not bad.

I am also going throught the same thing. I am also 6 weeks out and have been at a stand still for about 2 weeks. I am doing my best to up my calories but it is hard. I exercise and still no movement and I am exhausted. I am starting to take the B12 dissolving tabs they are not bad at all. I am at 38 lbs and frustrated as well. I am glad this was posted so I know what to do.

I will up my calories and keep exercising to see if I can break this forever stall...

I did go to the doctor yesterday for my 6 week follow up. I had my labs drawn, so we will see what they show. She said my weight loss totals were great and I should loose around 2 pounds a week from here on.

My highest weight was 196 lbs. June 6, 2012, day of surgery I was 178. Today I am 160. For a week or so now I have been fluctuating between 165-160. I have no energy and want to sleep most if the day. I push myself to exersise daily. Why can't I loose any weight? What's wrong w me??

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
