I have surgery on Monday the 25th. I have been on pre-op diet for two weeks. I knew I was a strong person, but just didn't know how strong. We spent a week at the beach this past week. Let me tell you...it was hard!! This was the first time on vacation where there were no alcoholic beverages or sodas consumed. I had to watch everyone else indulge in processed junk foods that are so good on the beach! I kept strong and reminded myself of the big picture. Now I must push thru tomorrow because I will only be allowed Jello and broth.< /p>

Oh WOW! Good for you! I know how hard it is to watch others indulge; some days are a breeze and some days are like torture. The good news is, if you can work past some of your head hunger you'll have more breezy days than torturous ones!! Give yourself a good pat on the back and good luck on Monday. Keep us posted!

That's great news!!. I was worried about my pre-op diet that I will be starting next month. Hubby and I were scheduled to be in Florida for a convention, and then my surgery was scheduled for right after the convention, but I cancelled my convention plans. I just didn't think I could handle being there while on a liquid diet and watching everyone else eat; wasn't sure if I could beat a murder wrap in Florida if they started eating in front of me.

You are truly an inspiration knowing that it "can be done" if you set your mind to it. I hope your surgery goes very well for you Monday and that you will be on a fast road of healing. Best of luck. Keep us updated.

Ugh...and I thought just having to get through Father's Day weekend was tough. Out for dinner Sat and BBQ Sunday. I can't imagine doing a week. Although I will be on pureed food for the 1st half of my vacation and soft solids for the 2nd half in mid-July. I think it'll be easier this time though, since I'm post-op. :) Good luck!!

It depends on your Dr's pre-op requirements. Are you on only Clear liquids? full liquids? Protein & veggies?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
