So I posted before because I am going through physical therapy to rebuild the muscle in my legs. And my nut has me on 3 Protein Shakes and 3 small meals of 2oz of Protein at each. But I have been gaining since I started. I have been diligent on my protein but Im worried im not going to lose weight again. I also started and quit today drinking diet soda. I tried it two weeks ago and when i didnt get sick or uncomfortable I kept at it. Has anyone had feelings of falling off the wagon 5 mths out. Any encouragement wld be greatly appreciated.

With physical therapy maybe you are gaining muscle. 3 Protein shakes and 3 small meals...not sure what that equals in carbs and calories and Protein a day.

Diet Soda 5 months out, the carbonation could potentially stretch your stomach and I'm glad you quit that, it's not worth it.

Keep an eye on things for now, you may have excess bloating from switching up your diet, you may have Water retention, if you gain any more, talk to your doctor again. A gain of 3-4 pounds and then a quick loss is natural, especially for women because of hormones, a steady gain of a few pounds a week is a problem, he may need to adjust the food and throw some cardio in with the weight training.

Dr lavin in louisiana told me the carbonated drink stretching the sleeve was BS and an old wives tale. But who knows?

I am 10 months out now and had a ruff patch a few months ago, where I was pretty non compliant with the diet and Protein. I pretty much thought that I didnt really need to do what the doc said. I found out the hard way that the weight stopped coming off like it did when I followed the rules. We are all human and bound to make mistakes, just try to learn from them, and move on. dont beat yourself up over it. you will succeed if you really want it! smile :)

Stretching the stomach as in making a whole lot bigger, I can see it being an old wives tale, bloating the stomach and causing un-needing gas and bloating, it's a fact. Carbonation does bloat the stomach, bloat the stomach a few too many times....then who knows.

When you have 100's of doctors saying not to do it, and a few saying it's a wive's tale, I guess we all have to use our own discretion.

Dr lavin in louisiana told me the carbonated drink stretching the sleeve was BS and an old wives tale. But who knows?

Going by what my surgeon told me in the one on one consultation, drinking a 12 ounce can of soda was the same as placing 48 ounces of carbonation into your stomach. If you continue to do this over a period of time the pouch will eventually begin to stretch out.

This is from the website Hypertextbook.com (http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2000/SeemaMeraj.shtml)

Soda manufacturers often inject cold liquid with pressurized carbon dioxide, then bottle the drink under high pressure. This is due to the fact that more gas will dissolve in a cold liquid that's under a high pressure than in a warm liquid that is not under pressure. The bubbles in such drinks simply do not only provide fizz, but instead change the flavor of the drink as well. The carbon dioxide in the soda forms carbonic acid, which alleviates the sweet taste of the drink. For this reason, flat soda oftentimes tastes much sweeter than when it is carbonated. The carbon dioxide not only alters flavor and mouthfeel, but also serves an anti-microbiological purpose. It has been shown to help prevent some microbes from growing inside of one's mouth, as well. Therefore, each type of soda drink contains a different amount of carbon dioxide, and thus has varying amounts of pressure. On average, the 12 ounce soda cans sold in the US tend to have a pressure of roughly 120 kPa when canned at 4 °C, and 250 kPa when stored at 20 °C.

Specifically, a refrigerated can of 7UP® contains 210 kPa of pressure. On the other hand, Pepsi-Cola® contains 276 kPa at approximately 16 °C. Lastly, a can of Coca-Cola Classic® at 34 °C has an internal pressure of approximately 380 kPa. These numbers came from employees of the soft drink companies themselves.

That is a lot of pressure in those 12 ounce cans.

I don't claim to be a physicists, and I don't play one on TV, but when my surgeon, who has done thousands of these surgeries successfully talks, I tend to listen. And when I am told no carbonation, then I cut it out of my life and did so a month before I had my surgery.

I don't want to take any chances!

I had months were the weight loss was very slow and then it would pick back up again. I reached a normal weight at 14 months out and I have been maintaining ever since. I drink one Diet Dr Pepper each day with no problems, so don't be so hard on yourself about it. I still get in my required Water each day. You will lose again. I know most of us have hit a stall at some point. Keep up the great work and you will get there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
