Lapband To Sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hi...I recently got approved for my lapband to sleeve revision. I was having constant vomiting issues as well as poor weight loss with the band. Unfortunately because of someone being out on maternity leave at work I have to wait until Oct-Nov to get my surgery. My doctor took out about 3 cc's from the band to stop the vomiting. Since then I've gained at least 8lbs so I am trying to work out more to keep from gaining any more before the surgery. It is hard because now I have no restriction and hungry more.

I was wondering about the scar tissue. The doctor mentioned that the surgery carried more risks because of the scar tissue that they might have to work around. He also said there is a chance of leakage? Has anyone ever had this problem with the revision?

How was the recovery? How long were you off work? I am planning on 2 weeks. With the lapband I was only off for one...actually I was ok after a few days.

I am reading the forums and they are so helpful. I am a little nervous about the scar tissue but so excited to get the band out and get the sleeve done.

Any advice or your stories are welcome...it helps so much to hear from people that have been through it. :)

Thanks

Cherie

Cherie,

I am getting my lapband out and being converted to the sleeve on July 16th. I know my doc said that I needed to take 6 weeks off with this surgery and I will be in the hospital for 2 days. When I had my band I was out a week and back to work no problem. He said with the scar tissue and the band removal they recommend 6 weeks.

Hi Amy

Oh wow really? 6 weeks! I am hoping it won't be that long. Fortunately I have the ability to work from home too but I am hoping to get back sooner. I have the approval but I am stuck waiting because of work.

Are you nervous about the surgery? I am a little but can't wait at the same time. I have been trying to do a lot of research on this.

Thanks!

Cherie

I had revision surgery on June 11th,

My doctor said similar to what yours said, after 6 weeks I should be completely back to regular activities.....I started driving again this past monday....

My procedure did take him 2 hours to complete, then I stayed in recovery for 3 hours and spented 2 nights in the hospital....

I had a revision from a very messed up band and I went back to work after two weeks. I was very tired though. I started feeling normal after three weeks when I could eat real food again. By week four, I was working out. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
