Sleeved On June 21St

Recommended Posts

Nam home from the hospital and boy am I sore ... How long does the soreness generally last ? I was told to walk a lot and it would help but I am so comfortable lying in one position that I don't wanna move..I just want to take th Percocet and sleep ? I had no issues with the liquid diet pre-op and did well, but now I'm struggling with getting enough Water and the Protein down, is this something that improves with time ??

Congrats on your sleeve! Can't help ya much since im still pre op. I havent ben through it but from what i've seen with my forum friends getting sleeved, struggling with the fluids is hard and soreness generally lasts a week (again, from what i've heard) ....Hope you feel better soon, it will be well worth it in the end :)

It gets easier. The best thing you can do is rest and heal. My Dr's goal when I came home was 32oz of liquid which is doable - you then try to work up to 64oz a day. For me, 32oz was probably more than I drank before the surgery so what I am doing is trying to make sure I take a sip every 5 minutes. Warm broth was better for me than cold liquid.

Soreness is much better a week out, but improves daily! Walking does help a lot also. I was instructed to get 40oz Water in daily for the first week and then start Protein. Your pouch will start to take in more as the swelling decreases. I'm almost 5 weeks out and basically no pain just an occasional soreness. I actually went back to work a week afterwards. Good luck!

Be patient with your body and allow some time to heal. I drank via a shot glass every 15 minutes (dribbled liquid down since I gulped) to make sure not to dehydrate and end up in a hospital with an IV.

Give yourself a break and get as much protien in as you can. I think I was getting in 30 grams that first week and 40 grams by third week. I used clear Protein since the protien shakes were too thick for me. Giving you permission to rest. Get up and walk around every hour you are awake even if just laps in the house. Then take a drink again and rest. Repeat.

Congratulations on your sleeve - things will improve...promise.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
