Hmmm what's in your kit? I have no idea, I never had one!!! I had a complete physical by my primary care Dr. prior to my referral to the Dr. I used in Mexico. My surgeon, then contacted my PCP, a local surgeon, and the Dr. I am using here in the states for fills. Once I got to MX they did blood work, X rays,& EKG. Part of my record with my PCP was my past diet attemtps etc.

As for worrying about not losing weight - yep, I worried I would be the one it did not work for......but it has worked!!! I have a long way to go, but, it is working, everyday. It is the most amazing thing!!! I kept thinking about how much money I had spent, and what if......But luckily for most of us the what ifs never happen. For some it is easier than others, but it works! I have control, something I never had without the band!

The long termers I have spoke to seem to be doing well at maintaining their weight loss, it seems once you reach a sweet spot with the band, you can maintain fairly easily. Not being hungry 24/7, and not being able to eat enough for 4 normal people in a sitting, has to help!! It has for me!! And I am sure it will for you too!!!

Let me know what was in your kit---I wanna know what I missed!!! Where are you being banded?

Good Luck!

Kat

The band just doesn't not work. In rare cases people have metabolic disorders that don't allow them to lose weight, but for the majority of us, it works because we MAKE it work. Follow the band rules and you'll do just fine. You still have to exercise and eat a healthy diet, but the band makes it a LOT easier to stay on task. It's a constant reminder.

What's this kit you're talking about?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
