You should take in between 65-80 grams of Protein per day. During clear fluids, pick up some Isopure at the Vitamin Shoppe or GNC. It's 40 grams of protein per 20 oz bottle and it's a clear Fluid - they have different flavors. I liked the grape ice. The orange flavor was ok too. This counts as fluid as well.

Thank you. I will be going there tomorrow. I have someone who said it won't be possible so I just wanted to be sure. I don't want to hurt myself after surgery so I decided to ask someone who had the sleeve and know what I need to do to stay healthy. Thank you once again

I didn't pay attention to my liquids for the first couple of days because I didn't realize drinking liquids was supposed to be continuous. I passed out and it was horrible. Definitely drink your Protein Drinks and water! Youll notice the Protein gets expensive, but these are your meals, so get what flavors you really like- see if you can have samples! I found a large bag of chocolate protein mix at costco (which is like Sam's Club or BJs) for about 45 dollars. it is 6 pounds. I can handle it.. it tastes like brownie mix which is why I like it. dont limit yourself though.. get different kinds and drink up! Good luck!

I could barely get in 14-20 ounces the first week. No big deal. The surgeon, the nutritionist and nurse, told me for the first month don't worry about it. You can live of stored Proteins for quite a while. They are more concerned with getting 64 ounces of liquid in, whether it be crystal light, decaff tea, Water, sf popsicles, MIO. You are suppose to be trying to work up to 80 ounces of Protein a day, but not the first week, heck it's not even necessary the first month.

I'm almost 3 weeks out and am getting about 30-45 in now, if I'm lucky. Last week I had a day where I could only get in 14!!

My taste buds changed a lot. For a while I couldn't even handle the taste of toothpaste, and I never had a problem with it before. Luckily now things are changing back.

I really must warn you not to buy too much of any one product. What you like now, you may hate or actually be revolted by after surgery. Pure Protein 100% whey Frosty chocolate was one of my favorites, I loved Muscle Milk Light, I loved the banana creme, the strawberry and they were making me gag just days ago. I am just starting to be able to tolerate the Pure Protein again.

I am still on full liquids. I am still struggling with Protein shakes, the taste etc. I drank Pure Protein 100% whey for Breakfast and often times lunch for almost 7 months straight and loved it before. Though I hated Isopure pre-surgery the Green Tea with Lemon was one of the better ones and I added MIO to it.

Don't go crazy buying a lot of things, because you will be wasting a lot of money if you can't handle it. Little protein is better than barfing & nausea.

I hate Isopure. I never have liked it because I feel it has a horrible after taste. I would only buy one bottle to see if you like it. I am 9 weeks out. I have two Protein Shakes a day plus food during the day. I get around 50-60 grams of Protein. However, my first month I did not get even 20 grams a day! I agree with Mina; it's better to concentrate of getting Fluid that first month. Good luck!

the first few days I didn't count or care I just wanted to stay hydrated and that is all they want too. I could start drinkable yogurt day 4 with my post op but that is not the case. YOUR DR will tell you want he wants you to have and what amount it is good to ask him/her how much you should have the first week.

You'll get a lot of opinions on this topic! What people can tolerate after surgery really varies. My NUT said to "work up to" 50grams within the first 4 weeks. I was fortunate and able to get 50grams in my first day home and within a couple of weeks able to easily get in 70-80. I'm now 3 months out, as long as I'm thoughtful about what I eat I get 80-120 daily.

I really must warn you not to buy too much of any one product. What you like now, you may hate or actually be revolted by after surgery.

This is so true!!

During my pure liquid phase I used products made by Health Wise -hot chocolate and hot tea were awesome. But Premier Protein shakes offer 30 grams of Protein in 11 ready to drink ounces. Love them!

Good luck!

The very first week I got in... very, very, very little. I was struggling with my Water and Protein Shakes were way too thick. I tried the Isopure, but I nicknamed it isopuke. Everyone can handle the Protein shakes differently. You might be fine, you might struggle. Please focus on your liquids first. The last thing you want is to be dehydrated. Protein is very important, but not as important as the liquids.

I was barely able to get anything down the first week. I buy the pure Protein Shots at wallmart for about 8 bucks for 6 of them. they have 27 grams of Protein a shot. I hate the taste of them, but it is small enough that I can get them down in one gulp and then I dont really worry about the rest of the day because I make sure to eat protein first. you wont be able to drink it in one gulp till you are about 3 months out at least though, otherwise it will hurt, and probably come back up right away. good luck!

Thank you. I will be getting a lot of Protein tomorrow. My surgery is on the 28th of this month. I was told that getting the protein you need is very difficult, but the people who told me doesn't really like the sleeve. I guess I will have to show them. Thanks

I read all. The first day I will see how much Protein to get. But I will worry about fluids to. I ask because I do not want to hurt my body after surgery. I am getting the surgery to be healthy, not to hurt myself. Thank you everyone for helping on this topic.

You won't hurt your body if you can't get all your Protein in, that's the just the plain truth.

You will hurt your body if you cannot get enough fluids in. Dehydration is worse than not getting your Protein in for the first few weeks. Work on your liquids.

If you can handle the clear Proteins like Isopure bonus, if you move to full protein and can handle Protein shakes whether it in powder form mixed or the ready to drink even better, but if they are not tolerable you will hurt yourself more forcing down shakes that make you sick than just doing your best to work your way up and concentrating on staying hydrated with waters.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
