MKambalimath 92 Posted June 22, 2012 I was just looking on Craigs list an ebay at exercise equipment for when Im ready to purchase something. I see a lot of Golds Gym ellipticals for sale and am wondering why....is it just because most people buy the equip and never use it? Or is that a bad brand? I thought I read on here where a couple people didnt like the Golds Gym brand. What do you guys think about getting used equipment? Is it better to just invest in something from a retail store? Just looking for some thoughts
ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted June 22, 2012 exercise equipment for when Im ready to purchase something. MJambalaimath Like you said - people might buy exercise equipment with the true intention to work out. I'm sure many purchases are made at the 1rst of the year unfortunately, they don't use it for long and it becomes a collector of dirty clothes p.s. don't know if Gold's brand is either better or worse than others kathy
MyGastricSleeveLife 180 Posted June 22, 2012 I think it really depends on the condition of the machine. A lot of brand new treadmills & ellipticals are over $1000 depending on brand and features. Used ones can be a lot cheaper and can be just as good if they're in good condition. I'm not sure what you've looked into, but you might want to consider something like this - http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_10051_33820_-1?Ntt=elliptical&Ntk=All - especially if you're fairly new to an elliptical. I bought one of these a few years ago and liked it because I could also use it as a bike and sit when I got tired of standing. I was about 300 lbs at the time. I could only do a few minutes at a time with the elliptical part of it. I ended up giving it to a friend because I didn't use it enough. Now that I've had surgery & have lost some weight, I'd kind of like either a treadmill or one of these again, but haven't spent the money yet.
deltadawn817 106 Posted June 22, 2012 my sister had a golds gym elliptical and it was the biggest piece of CRAP. She got hers at Walmart and didn't resell it it went to the dump. I got a pro form one and love it she replaced hers with a black friday sale one that was a very nigh end model on sale for like $400.
Almostthere34 128 Posted June 22, 2012 I bought a golds gym elliptical and it was so cheap and creaky. I got it from Walmart and gave it away for free. I always felt like I was too big for it. It creaked even though it had been oiled. I eventually bought a refurbished lifefitness elliptical online. So much better. I want a treadmill next.
Foxbins 625 Posted June 23, 2012 I have a Sole E25 that I bought used on Craigslist--I love it but it weighs a ton. I think it will outlive me! Very sturdy and smooth action, doesn't wobble at all.

MKambalimath 92 Posted June 23, 2012 I dont know about ProForm ellipticals, but I had a PF treadmill that was really good. Very sturdy and lots of options.....of course, it turned into a clothes hanger before I sold it over a yr ago, lol 1 Lissa reacted to this
Lissa 2,631 Posted June 23, 2012 LOL, MK! I had a recumbent bike that went the same way a few years back! Now I wish I still had that bike! 1 MKambalimath reacted to this
kamrie37 134 Posted June 27, 2012 I have a ProForm one. I bought it a couple of months ago and as soon as I am cleared to exercise, I am going on it again. I am very out of shape and will start off slow and work my way up. My ProForm is a good one. I bought it brand new for $900.
CaliKat 153 Posted June 27, 2012 Careful on the ProForm ones. They have a pretty low weight limit. I have had 2 over 2 years and the "pins" that hold the moving foot parts keep shearing. Many of the less expensive ellipticals on CL or at Play-It-Again are low weight limit. Something to be aware of.
kamrie37 134 Posted June 27, 2012 The weight limit on mine is 300 pounds. I hope it will hold up!
