Are Any Of You Post Ops Colder? Especially In This Weather From Hell?!

Recommended Posts

I hate the heat!!!! 95 degree does nothing for me, but make me angry, lol. Anywho I am naturally warm blooded, and so is my son. I hear that some WLSers are cooler because of a hormone related thing as well as less body fat. For those that are cooler, tell me your preop weight, current weight, and if you were naturally warmer than others. Another question do smaller people tolerate weather like this because of their lower fat composition or is it an individual thing for them? Even if I were at my goal weight of 125, I can't see me changing how I feel about the weather, but who knows since I might be lighter and more ability to be "nekkid" outside, lol.

I am not sleeved yet but I do know that lower body fat does make you cooler. But, for some people it is just a personal thing. My MIL & all of her children (all thin) just do not handle heat well. They will be pouring sweat in 75 degree weather if they get the slightest bit active. But, I know their bodies are used to the northern state of Minnesota as well! Not this Louisiana torture :)

Mixed results for me. I weighed 311 lbs. on my surgery date of 11/2/2011. Today, I weigh 216. I can tell you I do not sweat nearly as much as I once did and I contribute that to the weight loss. It is 90+ plus here in South Carolina and I can tolerate it better than ever before. However, I was cold-blooded most of the winter right after my surgery. I have always been warm-blooded, so the surgery did have some effect on me right away.

Like in the winter, I saw my self tolerating the cold more. I think its mainly because I've always lived in a COOOOOLD house for twenty years. LIke 40 degree cold (my mom is cheap with the heat.)

Kiki Von Moonshine

Since we don't have as much weight being carried around, it makes sense that you are slightly cooler in the summer, or should i say not as hot - which is the same thing. ;)

not as much perspiration in the summer - woooo that sounds good.

I used to "carry" some suitcases in the summertime with my excess weight, now that i'm not carrying them, i'm cooler.

In the winter since my suitcases are gone (no excess weight) you will be cooler. too.

this will be the 1rst summer and winter i will be dealing w/this - so new experience for me too.

stay cool/warm

I am pre-op and 250 lbs. I live in Florida, and must have really thin blood, because I am always freezing in the a/c. When I get home, if the 80 degree a/c comes on and blows on me, I shiver and get up to turn it up to 83. I am worried that I will need to wear fleece in the summer. Ha! I am okay with that trade off.

I loathe the cold, but I am hopeful that it is just because if I have to wear a bulky jacket, it will make me look even larger... hence a smaller me won't mind a bulky jacket. ;)

Lol, I'm talking about in non AC places, like outdoors, etc. My AC is crappy, and its usually still hot maybe 90 degrees if 100 degrees outside.. No relief really. If it's like over 80-85 outside with high humidity, then Im angry. I dont mind a bulky jacket in the winter, especially if it will keep me warm. I usually avoid them though if its heavy, and not stylish.

Yes, yes. That is me now. Before I was always sweaty and hot.

Now Im always cold. Well except when I'm working out!!

This might be TMI, but I have also noticed I am not as strong in my arm pit sweating. I use to have to reapply deo to stay dry, but now just once and it's all good

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
