Good morning everyone! I was wondering approximately how long this metal taste lasts. Everything tastes disgusting, including these nasty Vitamins. Thanks in advance!

That aounds like dysgeusia and there are soooo many things that can cause it, from pregnancy to diabetes to medications to poor hygiene...

How long it will last is directly related to what's causing it.

Time to put on your detective hat. ;)

Thanks, I have diabetes. So, I'm not sure if that has something to do with it or not. I'll look into it...thanks again!

Sometimes it could be because of a low carb diet and your body is in ketosis. It will go away. :)

Vitamins are said to cause a metalic taste, as well as the things mentioned above.

I get it from low carb... that's why plain Water tastes so bad to me.

I have had it on and off in my life due to different medications, I have had it due to ketosis (which I'm dealing with now) and sinus infections.

The Protein type metallic, milky taste seems to come back even right after I brush my teeth and usually in the middle of the night now I get up and have to brush my teeth again.

I got a few episodes of it about my late second and third month - but I associated it with the protien drink...hmmmm...

Thanks everyone! This is disgusting. On another note, I made my first Protein shake. It could be worse...lol. I hope that I figure this thing out soon.

The Vitamins caused me to have the metallic taste in my mouth. I brush my teeth and tongue after eating them. If I don't, everything I eat or drink after the vitamins will taste like metal.

I was sleeved June 6th. Yes, I still get that taste after chewing the Vitamins. I'm currently looking for another Vitamin.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
