Awesome Idea For All You Busy Post-Ops!

Recommended Posts

So ladies and gentlemen, I have thought of a pretty good idea. I went to the store (Target) but also you can go to the grocery store or Walmart. I bought:

a binder

page protectors

dividers

highlighters

colored pens

one folder

I sat for two hours on my computer and looked up recipes for all different stages of our post-op diet. I separated all the different diet recipes that I liked. And also separated them into Breakfast, lunch, dinner, Desserts, and drinks. This makes it easier for quick reference to make meals. Also it is easier to plan a week's worth of meals. And also for food shopping!

I put all my important paperwork gathered so far from all my doctors and specialists regarding the surgery into a folder. Lists of food groups and nutritional information from my nutritionists, I put in page protecters and put them in the front of the binder for easy reference. I also put loose leaf paper in the back to write things down if necessary. I plan to make a to-do list before and after surgery and a to-read list as well for good books to read regarding our surgery.

Everything is in one place, clean, and organized just the way I like it. Hope this helps all of you busy bees!

Thank you. I am a teacher wondering some ways to spend the 6-7 weeks after surgery.

Sounds like a plan. :) To Target I go!

I like colored flag stickies to for calling attention to certain pages in books/ binders- that could be color coded too.

Ooh there could be a section at the very back that includes updated before/after pics. Wait wait! The cover could be that!! A split shot. I don't know but you def. give me ideas. :P

You must go to "The World According to Eggface." She does recipes for "us" based on all the favorites (even shakes that taste like each girl scout cookie!!!).

I bought every book or took it out of the library.

I think there was confusion.

Aaviva asked where you can get these WLS recipes.

I meant there's this person/website named Eggface with recipes AND I have many books with recipes. (Haha I have the Idiot's guide to bariatric surgery w/recipes and The dummies one too). I don't know that Eggface made a book.

There are sections in Barnes and Noble and my library for that matter now devoted to WLS cookbooks and info.

I can't believe how much more there is from when I researched 3 years ago originally.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
