How Much Time Should I Take Off From Work?

Recommended Posts

I've been scheduled for surgery (YAY!) and now I'm wondering how much time, if any, should I take off from work? I work from home part time and my desk is literally next to my bed. My VSG date is July 27th, which is one of my off days. I'm off that Friday and Saturday. But I have to work on Sunday for 8 hrs answering phones. Then I go back to work Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for 4 hours each day.

Anybody have any ideas as to how much time I should take off? Or should I be okay literally rolling out of bed into my chair? LOL

I'm scheduled for surgery on July 18th and I also work from home. I work 8 hours 5 days a week answering the phone. Although I don't do any heavy lifting, I requested 4 - 6 weeks off because I don't want to be "chained" to my chair for my recovery period. I may work part-time after 2 weeks but I haven't decided. I think that if you "need" to go back then you may be fine working part-time. If you can schedule your time in blocks, that would be even better. If I choose part-time hours, it will have to be done straight through with one 15 minute break and sitting in one spot may not be comfortable.

I guess you won't be able to make a decision until you see how you're feeling after surgery.

I have been post-op for 1 week, 2 days.....and...if I had to go back to work tomorrow I would so be able to. I'm a teacher.

Most people usually take off 2 weeks from work.

I work from home as well, and will probably be resuming daily operations next week (17 days post-op). I could have physically begun earlier this week, but family circumstances kept me from getting back to work.

My doctor gave me 3 weeks off. I'm lucky. I still have problems sitting up too long. It makes the area of my big incision hurt. I guess that will be my little reminder to get up and walk a bit.

I have been off work since the 9th. My surgery was on the 11th of June. Although I am moving around just fine, I am swollen and get tired after alot of walking. I am scheduled to return to work on the 27th. I walk alot at work so I thought the extra week would be sufficient. It's all according to how you feel. The most important thing is take your time and listen to your body!!

good tips guys! thanks so much! i'm thinking it might be best for me to ask for a week. i had to do it since it's parttime so my check is going to be super small. but one thing i don't want to do is rush it and be upset with myself. :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
