How Long Until You Feel Normal?

Recommended Posts

I know everyone is different and can have circumstances that prolong recovery time.... But I want a ball park. How long until I'm with the kids at the park again or swimming with my niece?

You cant go swiming for 6 weeks after surgery, no hots tubs, no baths.

I'm one week out and I can already tell that 'Boots' is right on the money for 2 weeks enjoying the park. If it were not for my largest incision hurting a bit when i move certian ways I would say now would be fine for me. I have already started picking up my 13 month old from time to time (carefully of course). I can sleep on my side again with minimal discomfort and overall I feel great. I think by two weeks I'll be working out at the gym and back to normal life.

Careful picking up the little tike. I was told I couldn't lift anything over 10 lbs. Take it easy and focus on healing. You sound as if you feel really good right now. Keep it up. :)

Yeah, I try not to pick him up much and not big lifts... usually if I'm on the couch I'll pick him up from the floor, that's about it. I'm letting pain be my guide for the most part.

Normal? Normal? What is normal? I'm not sure I've ever felt normal... especially since surgery. I woke up raring to go and haven't stopped since! :)

The good news is that you'll WANT to go swimming way before you actually can. You'll feel up to it probably after a week to a week and a half, but you shouldn't swim until after 3 weeks.

I was pretty much pain-free after four days. I felt fairly normal (but had to rest occasionally after bouts of sustained activity) at about 6-7 days after surgery. Now, at 13 days post-op I feel like nothiing happened at all!

I had surgery June 4th. It all depends on the surgery, how many stomach surgeries you had prior, (i had c-section, hysterectomy, gallbladder out lots of laprascopies in my life). So that means more adhesions. I also had a hernia repaired. I have gone grocery shopping and am not allowed to lift anything more than a gallon milk (per my doctor). I don't like to go too far away from a bathroom and I really hate drinking out of a Water bottle much because i swallow too much air and I still depend on drinking from small cups.

I have my own pool and haven't been able to go swimming and am hoping to go by the end of July or beginning of August. I was worried about losing my summer etc. etc. too, but my father said to me, having the surgery and getting this taken care of now, will give you next summer and many more summers to enjoy. What's losing part of one summer?

Good luck.

I feel almost normal now, at 18 days. I am swimming this weekend, right at 3 weeks.. and starting the gym next week. Walking makes me feel fantastic and eases stomach or muscle tension. Drinking the tinyiest of drops of Water hurt after surgery for about 5 days. Now drinking first thing in the morning is a little unpleasant, but no more pain. Im 'eating' bisque Soups and creamed soups, pudding and jogurts.. all SF and no fruit. at 5 weeks dr says i can eat soft foods. Does anyone know if that includes scallops and fish? I am craving fish since the surgery. What did yall eat at 5 weeks?

Hi all new to group.

I had my surgery May 22nd 2017. I'm still not feeling energy I feel depressed not sure what's going on with that.

I don't have a scale not sure how much weight lost as of yet. My Drs follow up is 6/22nd so will know at that point.

I sleep much better for sure always had a problem with sleep. However it's like now I don't want to get out of bed. I could just lay around all day.

Have been on depression medication still on same dosage wondering if that needs to be adjusted also my panic attacks have been much more often. And it scares me as I was doing so well with not suffering through them maybe once or twice a month since surgery it's been one or two a day now.

I just want to have energy again and get back to work. Single need to earn money have been getting run around with nys disability and my insurance company.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
