No "crunches"?

Recommended Posts

I was banded by Dr. Ortiz and was told no "crunches" for 3 months. Is this because the movement of the "crunch" could cause problems during healing?...OR....does this mean no ab exercises at all for 3 months? What were you told?

I haven't had the surgery yet (1 week), but I met with my surgeon last week and I asked him about exercising. He told me whenever I felt up to it after the surgery, I could do whatever kind of exercise I wanted. That's just what I've been told, I would wait to hear from people who actually have the band first before you start doing 8 Minute Abs. :)

It's best to follow the advice of your surgeon and ask him/her for the rationale concerning the decision. My surgeon is fine with any exercise 6 weeks post-op.

Hey, my surgeon said no crunches for life. hahaha, instead he suggested leaning on the edge of a chair and bringing your legs up.

My bandser buddy just told me that last week.

BUT, I know of at lease one bandster on this site who does dozens and dozens of crunches. So I wonder why my surgeon would say that. I guess all surgeons are as different as we are.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
