How often do you go? Since surgery, I've been going once every three days or so. Is this normal? (sleeved 3/1)

Thanks!!

Simply put; NO INPUT, NO OUTPUT

If your diet is drastically reduced then you poop less. If they are stiff, sticky or hard then increase your Water consumption and think about taking something to help you along like Miralax or Benefiber.

They CAN be, everyone's different. Normally they should be fairly solid no matter WHAT your diet, the large bowel does a good job of adsorbing excess liquid to make semi-solid excrement. Sometimes it takes too much liquid out - Constipation, sometimes it leaves too much in - diarrhea.

I find it amusing, (and in a strange way, a validation of my success to date), that my BMs are quite small and only every few days.

Prior to surgery, I was probably eating between 2500-3500 calories a day (with some MEGA days that were probably easily over 5,000!). I used to have very "substantial" BMs and if I weighed myself before and after (as it sometimes happened.....not because I was monitoring...LOL), there could be a couple of pounds in that BM!

Crazy!

Just more proof that I was WAY overeating what my body needed, and working my digestive system in overdrive just to keep up with my intake!

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the benefits of the VSG (in combination with a radically more healthy diet) is a measurable difference in the rate of colon cancer! Another reason I'm so glad I had this surgery!

If I recall correctly that sounds good to start. I go everyday now, but it may be very little. I have begun to add Fiber to my diet, and my workout routine is a part of it...Yoga=poop.

I usually go about every other day or so - the thing I've noticed is that I don't go through nearly as much toilet paper as I used to.

This is my first post. I was sleeved 6-6-2012. I am constipated and not sure what I can do to help. I am sure I am drinking my liquids. I am eating only broth with some pulverized Protein in it. And thin cream of wheat for Breakfast with some melted Peanut Butter. Any suggestions for Constipation?

Hello....currently I go every 2 to 3 days. I had some BM issues around my 6 month mark. My one year anniversary is coming up next month on the 13th and I've lost 156 pounds. Please drink your liquids.....I went through hell when I couldn't GO. No matter what, I always have a bottle of Water in my purse. Drink...drink....drink.

Katrina~

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
