A big no-no. Unless you want to moan helplessly in pain and perhaps cause yourself a leak.

Carbonation will fill your tiny tummy. Even if you let the diet coke go flat, I've read in WLS for Dummies, the heat of your body will reignite the bubbles & further fill up your tiny tummy. It's an accident (to me) waiting to happen.

Good luck to you.

Okay I am going to admit I have had a few swallows this month of Diet Coke. I used to drink 4-5 cans a day. I did not have any pain or anything. It was only one swallow from fiance's can. But however it tasted NASTY! I would rather have GreatValue Cherry Drink Mix for Water.< /p>

Preop here. I'm a diet mtn dew addict. I normally drink 6-8 24 oz per day. I have not had any carbonation since Sunday. I've been drinking unsweetened iced tea with Splenda and it has been nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Next imma try and get to Decaf

I think i'm going to mourn Diet Coke more than anything!

I was a huge diet coke fan for years. When I made up my mind to do this and found out I could not have anymore i almost freaked. But I gave them up about a month ago and I feel great. After I got all the caffeine out of my body I am a new person. Give um up. U will thank yourself.

I'm sorry, I was wrong.... it won't stretch out your tummy. Here's from the book:

"Carbonation will give you more gas. Even if you let a carbonated beverage sit until it's flat, when you drink it, the heat of your body will release more carbonation, and the gas will come out one way or another. (Your pouch does not expand because of carbonation; this was a theory, but it's never been proven.)" From WLS for Dummies

I still discourage you to do it because every choice of what goes into your mouth, should be for better health with a smaller tummy, but pardon me for my being wrong in my previous post.

The day I went to the seminar was the last day I had diet coke. I drank only pop for more than 20years....which just makes me feel old atm.... I've not really noticed a huge change. I mean I hear about everyone else losing weight or better skin...i got nada. But I'm ok w/ it surprisingly. I knew if I couldn't kick this habit the weight issue wasn't ever going to be resolved. I'm overall happy w/ my choice.

i do miss it. and when my family asks me to pass them a pop sometimes I smell it just to remind myself of how it used to be lol. I can tell how old a pop is just by sniffing the open can, not sure if that's just being weird or if it's an acquired ability :)

Don't do it!! After a while you won't care any more. That stuff will rot you from the inside out and stretch your sleeve. (even if it didn't, it's not good for the gut.)

Powerade zero is my new favorite. I'm a big baby when it comes to Water, and I had trouble tolerating it for a while, so I drink this a lot now.

When did you have your sleeve done? I waited 8 or so weeks before I had one. I don't drink them often but I do drink one occasionally. I haven't had any problems but drink it very slowly.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
