I am required to do a two week pre-op diet. 4 shakes a day plus one 300 calorie (or less) frozen dinner and unlimited veggies. (Thank GOODNESS for the veggies... that should keep me from being too cranky at work.) Actually, I plan to have the frozen dinner for lunch and a veggie salad for supper. (I can use Salad Spritzers on the lettuce.)

My doc requires a 2 week pre-op diet, but I am still about 5.5 wks out. I started this week eating like I will once I get to solid foods after being sleeved, just larger portions. High protien, very little carb, almost no sugar and really getting in the liquids. Then instead of a 2 wk liquid diet I will start a week early and do 3. I would really like to lose about 25 lbs before surgery.

Ten day pre-op diet. 3 Protein Shakes and in between yogurt, cottage cheese or broth.< /p>

Lost ten pounds before surgery. I was proud of myself. It's the first diet I didn't cheat on!

I wouldn't want to give my stomach that much time off without exercise (it is a muscular organ, after all...) The length of post-op liquid diets that some docs impose makes it hard enough for a lot of patients to get back to handling real food again; I wouldn't want to make that any worse. Certainly go low cal (and low carb as well, if one is so inclined) to get a jump on the weight loss, but excessive liquid diets aren't necessary for that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
