MrzSongbird 53 Posted June 20, 2012 Did anyone begin pre-op, or liquid diet a month or more before surgery?
PEvette 297 Posted June 20, 2012 my doc required me to do a 14 day liquid diet, but I started it a week early....so I did a 3 week pre-op....
anais02 8 Posted June 20, 2012 My doctor only requires a 3 day yogurt and Water diet.
kimbernada 190 Posted June 20, 2012 I am required to do a two week pre-op diet. 4 shakes a day plus one 300 calorie (or less) frozen dinner and unlimited veggies. (Thank GOODNESS for the veggies... that should keep me from being too cranky at work.) Actually, I plan to have the frozen dinner for lunch and a veggie salad for supper. (I can use Salad Spritzers on the lettuce.)
made2beme 119 Posted June 20, 2012 My doc requires a 2 week pre-op diet, but I am still about 5.5 wks out. I started this week eating like I will once I get to solid foods after being sleeved, just larger portions. High protien, very little carb, almost no sugar and really getting in the liquids. Then instead of a 2 wk liquid diet I will start a week early and do 3. I would really like to lose about 25 lbs before surgery.

LouiseC 1,031 Posted June 20, 2012 Two weeks were required but I started 2 days early. I lost 11 kilos (28 pounds) in 16 days. Sent from my iPad using VST
MrzSongbird 53 Posted June 20, 2012 Cool I was thinking about doing it about a month prior, I really wanna be under 300lbs by surgery which hopefully will be August sometime.
Territravel 217 Posted June 20, 2012 Ten day pre-op diet. 3 Protein Shakes and in between yogurt, cottage cheese or broth.< /p> Lost ten pounds before surgery. I was proud of myself. It's the first diet I didn't cheat on!
MrzSongbird 53 Posted June 20, 2012 That's great Terri, can't wait to be on the losers bench with you!
RickM 1,750 Posted June 23, 2012 I wouldn't want to give my stomach that much time off without exercise (it is a muscular organ, after all...) The length of post-op liquid diets that some docs impose makes it hard enough for a lot of patients to get back to handling real food again; I wouldn't want to make that any worse. Certainly go low cal (and low carb as well, if one is so inclined) to get a jump on the weight loss, but excessive liquid diets aren't necessary for that.
