Marty McSkinnystein 342 Posted June 19, 2012 Just trying to get you to open...there's no musical here. I'll sing for you later. So I love Water. We have to sip, sip, sip to get in enough and not dehydrate after. I've read about how tastes change, you can't fit it in, stomach is too small. But if I force myself to sip a teeny bit every few minutes/seconds won't it be okay? Are there people who through no fault of their own just CAN'T get enough Water in? I mean, except for having...whatchacall it...where the esophagus is too swollen (stricture??) Assuming all goes well, good doc, no complications and I sip, sip, sip....is it normally fine? Also, those clear drinks with Protein like Isopure, they count toward the amount of water too, right? Obviously I'll talk to my doctor but wanted to hear your experiences. It's so hot today and I'm guzzling my water thinking...am I going to miss this feeling? Are you satisfied with those sips? Are you ever physically thirsty but just can't get it in? It's so hard to understand what it's really like after. Thanks in advance.
boots321 42 Posted June 19, 2012 All liquid counts toward your liquid intake. The Isopure you find on Amazon.com or at GNC would be great if you like it. The grape was the best I found but it leaves a funky aftertaste! You'll have to take tiny sips at first but you'll get better at it and the sips will turn into (almost) a gulp. As far as chugging ice Water on a hot day.....I dont know yet. I'm 2.5 weeks out and can take 2-4 good (almost) gulps at a time only. It is unbelievably hard to get the required amount of liquids in after the surgery! Sip, sip, sip!!!
GivingItMyAll 168 Posted June 19, 2012 The only thing I can tell you is that Isopure does count toward your liquid intake. I'll be following this thread for the answers to your other questions.
kimmy*custis 276 Posted June 19, 2012 Yes, Isopure does count...I hated them tho. I tried several flavors...yuk. I did better with crystal light. Yes, it was hard not to chug...trust me, you will know when you drank too much. I am sometimes thirsty but not too often. It takes a major adjustment but you can do it...we all are! Good luck! Ms skinniness 3,003 Posted June 19, 2012 It is hard to get the Water in the beginning. You have to sip, sip, sip, and sometimes it causes a little discomfort. Not much, but some. It does go away and with time, it does get better. At 8 months out I am able to take 4 big swallows with no problem. But I am afraid to push it.
Teenuh 0 Posted June 19, 2012 Still pre-op as well and this was one of my big worries...i love water...i love cold Water on a hot day and i love to chug!! lol I've bought myself water bottles that limit me from the chugging to help get out of the habit tho... look forward to more answers
AliveAgain 283 Posted June 19, 2012 The only time I had to sip Water was the first two weeks. Then I could take bigger sips in the next few weeks. By about 5-6 weeks out, I was back to drinking Water just like I did before surgery. Now I can take multiple sips in rapid succession, and I rarely "gulp" it down unless I'm out exercising in really warm weather. Isopure counts, but try it first. I couldn't stand the stuff, left a weird aftertaste in my mouth for hours like someone rubbed my tongue on dirt. 1 boots321 reacted to this

Teenuh 0 Posted June 19, 2012 LOL! i just got some of the Syntrax Nectar shipped here (i'm in Canada...it had to come from the states) and I LOVE it...have only tried the lemon tea flavor so far but it tastes just like iced tea (sweet tea to you guys) i add a couple drops of lemon juice to it and its awesome! I dont mind the shakes but i know i couldnt go a couple weeks on just shakes...i need some less creamy/thickness... also, what about de-caf coffee in the liquid stage? a friend of mine introduced me to mixing Protein Powder to coffee in the mornings and its GREAT!
