When does the fill stay with you

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how many fills it takes before one finally sticks? I have been having fills every month for 3 months and wondering when it will stay and for how long?

Mine didn't take until I had a full 10 cc's in my 10 cc band, which was fill #3. My NP had me drink Water while he was filling me to see when it backed up, then took a little out. Maybe ask your doc if he can try that technique. It got me right to the level I wanted!

The answer to this will be different for everyone. Ask ten different people and you'll get ten different responses. In my case, I had restriction from the get-go, even before my first fill. I have since had one fill of 1cc and am contemplating having another because though I am still losing, I am able to eat more in one sitting than I feel I should be able to.

Well the problem with that is he doesn't have one of those floro screens or whatever they are. But that sounds like a wonderful idea!!!:clap2:

I've had two that have "stuck" for longer periods, my third (about 1.6ml) was good for months, but in that time I started running and whilst I didnt drop that much actual weight, I suspect that the 5kg or so came from my internal fat stores, I lost my restriction very quickly and really began from scratch after that. That was in about May and I've just had my sixth (7th?) fill up to 2.5ml and I'm just finding goodish restriction again in that I can still eat anything but not big quantities. My restriction has always disappeared within a week of the fill but this time its hanging around. I dont want more for now, in fact just cancelled an appointment with my doc for this afternoon, but I'm sure than another 5 kg off and I'll be needing a hefty top up again.

I was a lower BMI patient to start with and my doc reckons this is why I can tolerate so much Fluid in my band - he said 2.5ml and still being able to eat bread is not what he usually sees, but I dont have a lot of abdominal fat left now, I'm sitting on what I still need to lose.

So in some ways losing restriction is a good sign in that you know you've lost a good whack of that dangerous visceral fat, the stuff that puts you at risk of all the nasties.

I don't think I did the Water test very well the first time. I am not feeling very restricted at 1.65 in my 4cc band.

Carol, how big are your fills? I ask because it has bee nsaid that many of the U.S. doctors like to creep up on restriction and only give .25 to .50 of a cc for each fill, where as Mx doctors like you to achieve restriction as soon as possible. Everyone is different. You may find out that as little as .2ccs can make a huge difference. I know for me sometimes my fills took 1-2 weeks to kick in. Other times I would get greater restriction months later after getting a fill. Hang in there it can be a bit frustrating but it will happen.

I would have to agree that it's a very individual amount. Someone did a poll on here about fills and it seemed like the majority of people with a 10 cc band needed 7.5 cc or greater to achieve good restriction. I had #3 about a month ago and it's gone now. I have an appt. for 9/7 when I hope to get a small fill.

I have been going every month since my surgery and now on number 3 fill I am restricted, I love it and I am very satisfied on the way it it only letting me eat about 1/2 a cup or less, depends on the day. I do think the U.S. doctors go very slow on their fills.

I could always feel my fills the very day he did it, only they would not last at all. It has been a week and half since my fill and I very much feel it now......It's great!!!!:clap2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
