Food Not Interesting Anymore

Recommended Posts

Im 4 weeks out, I've had some complications, and no weight loss this past week...I like to consider myself a foodie...I didn't get obese from junk, just a lot of rich and quality food. Lately if I think about certain foods they seem appetizing, but start eating anything and i lose interest in food rather quickly. I've even been really picky with drinks. Anyone else?

You have a lot of head hunger...... this is the worst, and at 8 months post op, I am learning more about my head hunger. It is really hard to get it under control at times. I try to just have a little of it if possible, but I don't really need it, I'm not hungry, but my head in ruminating on a certain food. It never really tastes as good as I remember it to taste.

There are times when I just don't loose any weight to at 4 weeks out. My stomach was still somewhat swollen and plus there's the stall that happens around this time. It's your body needed to adjust itself in size. It will happen, and you will loose a lot more weight, and you will have more stalls. No problem, you will get there. Eat healthy, Protein, Protein, and fluids. Maybe some veggies too. Keep the carbs low and Proteins lean. Make sure your taking your Vitamins. :)

I hear you. Used to be that savoring a good meal brought with it that good feeling of satiety and getting those juices flowing would prompt the endorphins and the feeling after a delicious meal. I believe now, that even though we can take our time eating, we aren't eating enough to get the endorphins really going and the pleasure factor is minimized. Eating several courses is pretty much off the table now too...I went to Hokkaido (seafood buffet) to Celebrate my granddaughters graduation. I kind of dreaded the fact that I might not be able to enjoy it very much, getting full so fast, but I managed to prolonge the meal, having a serving of maybe 8 small clams, which looked like more on my plate with a little drawn butter and lemon....involving myself in the conversation, and then going to the teppan grill, where they had 2 oz cuts of steak which I had them grill up with bean sprouts, a little onion and mushroom. I was able to enjoy it as the beef was super tender and the soy sauce just enough to keep everything moist and flavorful.

Most other foods don't taste that great to me anymore, and I am trying to think of ways to thrill my pallete without eating too much, or eating too many calories. For now it is a matter of testing things out and seeing what I can tolerate. I never thought I would have to "tolerate" meals...it's so weird.

I do crave a nice serving of lobster and/or scallops...perhaps for my birthday next month.....

So I am still in the liquid diet phase of my sleeve journey. Sleeved 6/7 weighed 199, was 187.4 this morning. HATE the flavors I have with my Protein and have tried different options but am ready for something with a little more substance like an egg or yogurt. Maybe some steamed asparagus and salmon.

Glad to hear that the old comfort foods may not be as comforting. I have heard this in my local support group too.

It's a bit more pricey, but I like the unflavored Protein mixed with my favorite crystal light flavors...fruit punch CL mixed with 2 scoops of protein gives me most of the protein i need for the day so I dont have to stress later. Just had some cottage cheese with a bit of salt and pepper and im completely full. Most of my head hunger involves sweet sweet carbs...lol.

We have always LOVED to cook, and we entertain often! This means I STILL end up cooking and miss being able to fill up my plate with all that yumminess! We;ve never been junk food eaters! Always good grilled meat and a couple fantastic sides with fruit....maybe a cobbler or Cookies on rare occation. This past weekend I made a HUGE bowl of potatoe salad, grilled veggies straight out of our garden, Butternut squash grilled with butter spray, cinnimon and sugar, and more cantalope and watermellon from out garden. The grill was packed with burgers, pork, and stuffed grilled chicken! I sat down with 1 spoon of grilled squash and 2 bites of chicken. I didn't even taste my potatoe salad and thought I was going to pop!

I think I miss the social connection of filling my plate and enjoying with the friends.....it's so weird!

Just can't eat...not really interested!

I must say yes, I used to love food, especially spaghetti and meatballs. . now I could care less. I must honestly say now I don't have a favorite and i don't care if i get something or not. . . guess that is a good thing right. . . but the one thing i have noticed is that i LOVE to drink everything. . . especially crystal light and ice Water with lemons in it. . . i go nuts for liquids. . . that could be bad right? guess i could call myself a "liquidie and not a foodie" ahhhh life is good

This has been my favorite thing about my VSG that I don't care what I eat next. I used to daydream of what I would eat later in the day or the next day. I would even look forward to the next meal while I was still eating. I'm almost 2 yrs out and I still don't care for food, I just use it for energy and occasionally something looks tasty but not often.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
