I finally have my July 2nd Surgery date! Went to my preop/nutrition class yesterday then came home and ordered my 2oz plastic cups with lids so that I can meal plan ahead. =) I've been on this journey for the past 2 years and can't believe it's finally time! I guess the main thing I am worried about post op is acid reflux. I've been having a ton of it the past 2 wks. My surgeon is Dr Baggs in Richmond Kaiser from what I hear he's the best of the best!

I am Kaiser too, but in Denver. I'm waiting for my date, have my pre-op on Tuesday. My surgery will be around the week of the 16th. I am just finishing my classes, and have been in the line for almost exactly a year. I've already got my 2oz cups and just finished shopping for my 3 day fast and my first week post-op. I'm really ready to get this done, and feel great about Kaiser and my care. Everyone has been really kind and sensible.

You have every right to have ALL the mixed emotions. This is my 3rd time to

Go through the approval process. Each time I found a 'reason' not to proceed. Very unsupported family members helped changed my mind. (they do not know about the surgery this time) I Was approved in 2008 for bypass' date=' (thankful now I didnt do the bypass) I know this is what I want, I still struggle everyday. I just think everyday how much this will improve my health and how I want to live healthier for the rest of my remaining life.[/quote']

I also have family who would not support me if I told them I was having WLS they would try real hard to talk me out of it so I just never told them and after all is said and done I'm still not telling them

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
