At what point would you be able to eat it? I'm 2 weeks post op today. Down 11 lbs since surgery total lost is 29 lbs. :)

It's usually when you progress to full liquids. I am techinically allowed to eat it but our nutritionist advises against says it's still has too many carbs - I am suppose to eat only things that have 6 or less carbs but even the yogurt has 15 grams. I'm confused as heck about all this.

I'm onto puréed I'm not sure if that is full liquids. I would assume it is. I guess I could try a little but n c what happens. :)

Technically I can have it since I progressed to full liquids last week. I have not had it, out of fear that it will not sit right in my tummy. My 2 week follow up with the doc and nut is tomm. I am hoping the nut can provide me with a list of stages and foods. I feel like I am just existing on broth, Jello, popsicles, and Water. The Protein Drinks are the worst part, I barely get 25 grams in per day, if that. My nut is very easy going and allows any food after 2 weeks as long as you can tolerate it. I know every doc is different, but such a drastic inconsistency scares me! On the plus side, I'm basically pain free! It's getting better day by day...

Thank you. I work in the morning and won't have time to make an egg so I was gonna do cream of wheat. However I found this recipe for scrambled eggs in microwave and only takes 45 seconds :)

My nut said the same as yours. I can have any foods after two weeks as long as I can tolerate it. After reading all the posts here I am as confused as you. I just wanted you to know there was someone who got the same information as you.

Thanks Debi, I see all the posters with the same date of Surg, still on liquids! I just got home from my appt and here are examples of foods approved for me at 2.5 weeks out:

Shrimp cocktail, chili of any kind,meatballs,eggplant,chicken/tuna/crab salad, Tomato sauces and Soups, veggie burgers, peaches, bananas and canned fruits.

Kind of shocking, because from what I have read this sounds like the 6 week post op diet! Oh well, I will follow the instructions of my Doc and Nut. :-)

It sounds like you have my list of what I can have. I just hope this isn't the reason I'm having what seems to be, to me, slower weight loss. Again, if you have problems drop back to the liquid diet.< /p>

In all honesty, I am scared to death to move to this food phase! I had some mashed tuna, that I blended into a paste consistency, with no mayo and TMI, I was in pain doubled over vomiting and had diarrhea all last night. For lunch today, I tried a soft scrambled egg... Same reaction, I had to run to the potty! Ugh. I hope this gets better, as of now the only thing I can tolerate is liquid. Thanks for the encouragement and support. I appreciate it.

Cream of wheat settles my tummy and goes down wery well, I've had great luck with it as long as I thin it out with a little skim milk

Do you add anything to the cream of wheat for flavou?

Nope, just skim milk. I figure at this point I don't care about flavor, just trying to get some liquids in while trying to feel somewhat full. I guess if you need to you can add a packet of Splenda or something.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
