Gastric Band Going To The Sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I have had the Band for over a year and had to be rushed to the ER from complication from getting stuck and swelling where i could not catch my breath and severe pain, three different times, now I am converting to the sleeve early August, I am just checking if anyone else converting to sleeve after lap-band problems?

Hi Whitty,

I am doing the same I had the band done in June 2010, after much vomiting and constant pain and discomfort I had the band removed 15 June 2012 I was told by the doctor whom preformed the removal that I had a lot of complications going on inside with my stomach, liver and GI tract. I am now in recovery mode till August so every thing internally can recover and settle down, I am then having the sleeve done..

I did lose 22kilos with the band in the first year, then battled to lose any thing in the last year.

I look forward to having the sleeve.

Yes, I am converting from band to sleeve. I got the band in February 2009.

FYI, there are a few other threads on this topic. You can do a search if you want to see what other people have said. :-)

I'm not trying to nit-pick, I just want to make sure I understand:

I have had the sleeve for over a year and had to be rushed to the ER from complication from getting stuck and swelling

You've been sleeved a year? Or banded? (Trying to figure out of you're revising TO or FROM a band).

My band was removed in September after about 6 years.

I've had my sleeve since late March.

There is a forum specific to band -> sleeve revisions, you can get to it from the "Forums Home" page. Lots of great info to read through there.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
