Shinyhappymommy 2 Posted May 19, 2008 I don't mind going. I just always feel guilty if I don't get it done. My inspiration: I had a sweet home teacher who was a new convert at 70 something. He home taught us diligently. He got cancer and the first thing he was concerned about was letting us know is that he may not make it that month. His cancer looked like it was beat. He and his sweet wife took my kids on an rv trip over the weekend while we moved our household across town. They had so much fun. When they got back it was apparent he was wiped out. Getting to the doctor that week confirmed that the cancer was back with a vengeance. After that, instead of getting out to teach us, he'd invite all his families to his home where he taught us. The first time after the cancer came back, he shook and scratched (the pain meds) and taught us to not take time for granted, that you never know how long you have to live. It was all I could do not to cry as we listened to him. He passed away last January, only a few months from his cancer coming back, having only missed one month of home teaching. Whenever I feel like I just can't get it done, I think of this dear brother and I know if I try, I can do it. Thanks for the reminder about visiting teaching. My partner just had a baby, so I may need to do some finagling to get it done this month.
Bjornsyouruncle 0 Posted May 27, 2008 Shinyhappymommy, what an amazing man your HT must have been. It reminds me of my first HT, that was assigned to me as a new convert (I was 17 at the time). He was well into his 70's and had been raised in the church but was inactive until his 60's. His wife came with him on his visits and I came to love them both so much. They've both been deceased for several years now, but the effects they've had on my life are still with me. Anyway, I just wanted to stop in and introduce myself. I'm Tammy from South Carolina and I'm in my 10th year as a member.
lotzasunshine 2 Posted June 9, 2008 I was very excited to see an LDS thread. Well, I'm pretty new, getting banded next month. I am self pay (well my parents are paying) and getting banded in Denver with Dr. Kirshenbaum. Anyway, I live in Salt Lake City, but have also lived several of the places mentioned by others on this thread. I have lived in Cali, AZ, MO, Nauvoo, and UT. Kinda all over. But my hubby and I are planning on staying in Salt Lake City forever!! So... I just wanted to introduce myself and say HI!!!

Laurieloo 0 Posted June 10, 2008 Does anyone know how we can move this thread under the main heading of Religious Bandsters? More people would find us that way.
Shinyhappymommy 2 Posted June 10, 2008 I just submitted a request to the webmaster, via a private message. We'll see if that produces results. I would love to have a whole forum for LDS support. As far as fast Sunday goes, I fasted the last one for the first time in a couple of years (pregnant and nursing) and it was surprisingly easy. I even lost two pounds that day and it stayed off. Blessings do abound. :behindsofa:
Laurieloo 0 Posted June 10, 2008 Well, this is one of the fastest growing churches in the world, so I think we deserve our very own subheading! :-) One's religion, sexual preference, maritial status, etc. really doesn't change the way the band works, but it certainly promotes responses to "other" issues that are in-line with our own beliefs. I don't write a lot, but when I do, it's nice to know you all are here.
