Congrats to all of you post op ladies! I want to ask, were any of you scared up until the very moment of being taken to the OR? I can't shake this fear and still have 5 days until surgery.

I was not a scared at all, I guess I figured I worked so hard to get there that it was my reward. Good luck to you, you will be fine :)

I was sleeved on Monday the 15th. I was feeling really good yesterday, but a tad worse today. My large incision is painful today, especially when getting up and down. And it burns.

I'm also feeling blah and tired today. I think I overdid it yesterday and I'm paying the price today. SIGH.

And I'm STARVING. I suppose it's the dreaded "head hunger" we all heard about pre-op. :'(

How much are you taking in? I am not doing the 64 ozs the dr recommended, I take small sips every 20 - 30 min or so, trying some broth now and it feels good on my tummy. My larger incision is the one that is bothering me too, I need to do more walking, I think it may be the gas. Good luck everyone we are at the beginning of a long raid but we can do it.

I usually lay on the heating pad or put it on my stomach. I don't need it much anymore. I have been lucky I guess. I feel a little weak but that's about it. I keep pushing the liquids. I hope I am getting enough.

Hope everyone is getting better and more comfortable every day.

Lovex5,

This was my first surgery - first time in a hospital (except visiting friends & family, of course). I tried to distract myself as much as absolutely possible (this is where ADD comes in handy) up until the moment my parents had to leave me in the pre-op room because they were ready to move me into the OR. The anxiety hit me as I watched them walk out the door & I started crying. The nurse handed me a tissue & then the walk was so short to the OR that I didn't have time to dwell on my fear. Up until that moment I dispelled any of my worries by reminding myself that I am saving my life by doing this, that my doctor is accomplished & has zero deaths & minimal, if any, complications. And he was NOT about to ruin that good record by making a mistake on little ol' me.

Don't dwell on the complaints of complications on this forum. Go to the success stories thread & read posts from the rest of us. I had a textbook surgery &, so far, a textbook recovery. I was sleeved on Monday, home Tuesday, only took 2 prescription pain pills on Wednesday, Tylenol on Thursday, & no pain meds on Friday or today. I stopped holding my stomach when standing sometime yesterday. I am walking 20 minutes at a time at a moderate pace & could probably go longer if I wanted to push myself. I'm keeping all Clear Liquids down with no nausea. "No fuss, no muss."

You CAN do this. You have researched this. You made this decision when you were not anxious. You are doing what you know is best for you. Focus on that. You will do great!!!

Hugs,

Susan

Could be gas, walk around that helped me with the gas. I am started to get the hunger pains. I have been on liquids since Tuesday. I see others trying cream of wheat, I am wondering if I should try that....hmmmm

Hey y'all! I was sleeved on the 16th, spent 3 days in ICU because my heart rate was ridiculous and the day after surgery I was scheduled to do the swallow study but due to nausea and vomiting couldn't do it. I was not concerned about the surgery at all but that day had me very worried. Turns out after they changed my pain meds the nausea and vomiting resolved. I am glad I read y'all's posts because I too am having trouble getting in my liquids. My doctor told me that if that happened to drink Gatorade until I'm able to and try to get as close to 60 g of Protein as I can with the shakes. I overdid it Saturday (less than 12 hrs after my release) as I had my brothers wedding to attend so yesterday I was miserable, in a major funk after being around family who are not supportive of my decision, and had several meltdowns. Thank God for my in laws who are with me and super supportive and are nothing but encouraging! As far as pain goes...I haven't needed any since day 3 with the exception of yesterday. The emotional effects are definately what I struggle with, but I think once I start to see the changes, it will boost my spirits. I have a post op appt today and hoping for a good number to do that. :). Good to hear how everyone is doing so far! I helps a lot! Take care!

Jhumpries, glad to see you are home and doing better, a supportive family really helps, I will pray that your family comes around and rallies around you. I went through Kaiser and do not have a post op for another few weeks, confirms all drs gave different ideas. I made my family a big meatloaf dinner, I sure was tempted but had to stick to my guns, they haven't had a home cooked meal in a while and decided its not their fault so why should they suffer. They were ecstatic to smell the aroma from the kitchen, after all how many sandwiches can one take....lol. Take care

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
