Zenoosh -

Thank you SO much for the information!! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. Makes perfect sense, as I don't have any cardiac issues so I can see why my insurance company would balk at paying for the procedure.

You ROCK!!

Thenerd--

Thank you! I have my moments, and cardiology has a special place in my heart (haha). Seriously though, if you have any other questions from the cardiology side of things, dont hesitate to ask away. And again, good luck and keep us in the loop! Im super excited for my sleeve...nervous and scared, but excited nonetheless. We have a better shot at coming thru it with no complications when we have no co morbidities, so right now is the best time for us to get it done! I have also been overweight my entire adult life, but never felt as though I was missing out or unable to live a normal life, until now....Ive waited long enough, and tried every diet and program out there. Im committed, and its time to rock and roll!!!

You hit the nail on the head...I've finally decided to have surgery because I want to avoid health issues developing. For the longest time I've thought that because my "only" health issue was my weight I shouldn't consider wls. Now that I've watched my parents and older siblings develop all sorts of scary comorbidities and I just don't want to go there.

So glad to have this community!!!

I'll definitely let you know if I have any further questions.

Kiki and sacharliem we are so close in dates. Fun. It's nice to have a built in group of buddies. I am nervous though because I unexpectedly had to have a surgery this pat Friday. They had trouble getting me off the vent. I was assured I wouldn't know I was intubated bc it would go in after I was asleep and come out in the OR before I ever woke up. After the surgery was over, the surgeon came out, told my boyfriend I did well and he could go back to recovery with me in a few minutes. Apparently another 2 hours went by. I woke up in recovery, hearing everything the docs and nurses were saying but unable to move a muscle. I was scared to death bc I could feel that I couldn't breathe on my own, felt like I was choking on the endotracheal tube and couldn't even let them know I was awake. Has anyone heard of that before? Does that mean it will likely happen again? Can they handle that type of situation in Mexico? I'm kind of freaked out. I saw a couple of nurses on here. Any thoughts?

I am scheduled for October 12th. My insurance hasn't been approved yet' date=' but all my appointments are completed (except for pre-surgery and last nutrition).

I am going on vacation (a cruise - yikes) in the middle of September so had to push surgery out to October. Nice to meet you all.[/quote']

Suejersey - how funny is it that I'm doing the same: cruise mid-sept, surgery mid-oct! Where are you cruising? We have a big family group just going to Bahamas - but it's for my nephews HS graduation so it's more about the cruise than the destination :-)

We are going to Bahamas and Grand Turk. Carnival out of Bayonne New Jersey. This will be my daughter's first cruise (16 and 14 years old) so we wanted to be sure we didnt' something that would have fun stuff for them to do (as with my weight I am definitely not as active as I used to be) so we thought this was a great opportunity. My husband and I love cruising, you can't beat the price, that is for sure! Have fun!

Ha!

So We're leaving out of Bayonne on 10/21 and my date is 10/1! I'm a travel agent, so October is when we normally travel to keep our costs down. Hubby and I are headed to Bermuda on a 7 day Royal Carib cruise. Yay! I'm a lil nervous, but excited.

What strategies are you using to loose weight or just be healthier before Oct?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
